Greetings Fall Shareholders! Thanks to all of you for your tremendous support in a year that brought a lot of difficult times, some huge changes for the farm, and a good measure of joy and togetherness as well!
On this page we’ll be keeping you up to date on what’s happening with your Fall 2009 Yarn and Fiber CSA shares. Check back from time to time for updates!
Fall 2009 Share Update!
February 2, 2010
The Fall Shares are moving along and will be ready for distribution before you know it. But before we can do anything though, we must have your correct address.
If you have moved since your ordered you FALL 09 Share, please email us at: addresschange AT fiberfarm DOT com ASAP.
By the end on the week I will be able to let you know how many skeins/ounces of yarn/roving the share distribution will be. I will also have photographs of the colors available for purchase posted on the blog shortly afterwards. Dyeing will cost $16 per share this year and is only available for yarn, not spinning fibers.
If you purchased a knitting share and would like to switch to a spinning share, please email us at the address above. Regretfully, we cannot change spinning shares into knitting shares this season.
PLEASE make sure you have a FALL 2009 share before emailing us with questions or changes. We spend hours every year trying to sort out shareholders that are confused about which share they purchased. If in doubt, please search your Paypal account for the info before emailing.
Thanks!
Where’s My Share?
January 11, 2010
First, let’s get caught up!
As you probably know, the greatest change to happen on the farm is that we moved to Virginia in October! We had to downsize the flock significantly and sadly left most of the goats behind. But, not to worry, the fleece they were wearing was already yours, and we’ll get to that in a moment.
We sheared the goats on Juniper Moon Farm in November. It was an unseasonably warm, incredibly beautiful day.
Check it out, our new shearer is a woman! Her name is Emily and she’s awesome.
Some of our favorite people joined us for the day.
And then we had lunch!
Paige and Erin took the fleeces to the mill in the first week of December. The Kid Mohair blend yarn created from our fall shearing is processed at MacAusland’s Woolen Mills on Prince Edward Island in Canada. We stopped along the way to pick up the rest of the fleeces from New York shareholder Adelaide (thanks, Adelaide!). It took two long days of driving but we finally arrived at the mill.
With a truckload of fleeces.
Here’s part of our fall crop being weighed in the extremely steamy washing room!
And now we play…the Waiting Game! The queue for processing is naturally not as long in the fall, but the mill is also constantly producing yarn for their own retail sales and the incredible blankets they make, so we do have to take our place in the production line.
As of today – January 11th, 2010 – the fleeces were dropped off 5 weeks ago. The fleeces have been washed and dried and are ready to go to the carder! We expect to receive the yarn back in another 6 weeks or so, then we’ll need a few more weeks to sort, dye, pack, and ship out all the shares. Check back here for periodic updates. If you still have questions about your share, please email Paige at paige@fiberfarm.com.

Ooo! I am excited! This is my first batch as a shareholder.
yay!!!!!! I still haven’t started working on my previous batch. Is it strange that I am so excited for the new batch already???
I’m with Laurie! I haven’t knitted anything yet with my spring 2009 share but I love taking it out and just squishing it, but that doesn’t stop me from anxiously waiting for my next share. Thanks for the updates
This is my first batch as a shareholder too, and I’m really enjoying these updates!
What a process! This will be my first share and I can’t wait!
