When dearest Flarkin saw the BFF Cowl in the Deep Fall 2012 Knitty, she came up with a great idea. A swap for the Ravelry members of the JMF group. Valentine’s day at 9p EST was the big reveal and both Susan and I watched (having not participated) with tears in our eyes at how wonderful, caring, smart, and funny these women are. It was super fun to see all the posts come rolling in with lots of photos of people opening up their packages and seeing what goodies were inside. Now, the swap was supposed to be just for the cowl, but there were many people that couldn’t help themselves and stuck in a little something extra for their partner.
I can’ t quite recreate the flurry of comments amidst webcam photos, but I thought I’d share one photo (mostly webcam shots!) of each swap participant at the opening.

Who is just finishing up her cowl for SarahVV because she knit a sweater for us in 8 days so it could be photographed for one of the new pattern booklets. Here’s an in-progress shot:
As you can see, everyone had a fantastic time! In fact, people are very excited about the possibility of the next swap!
I’ll be certain to participate next time, since I’m just a TINY bit jealous of the ladies this time!

I have never had so much fun online as I did onValentine’s Day! Even though some of us have not met in person, I spent the evening with some of the best friends I have. And it’s all because of Susie. Without JMF, this couldn’t have happened.
It is true! I knit an entire cat for jdunsmore — and out of farm yarn nonetheless!
This was such a fantastic and fun swap with the most wonderful of friends. Can’t wait for next time!
I love the chain that this swap created! I followed the PAGES AND PAGES of posts on the Ravelry thread on Valentines Day. Absolutely fantastic. Such a great community and all because of JMF.
This was such a fun swap! I didn’t participate in the knitting but sure had a lot of fun reading everyone’s posts during the grand reveal! You all are a great group of folks
Thanks for posting this round up. it was so neat to see the link from one auntie to another. This is my favorite corner of the Internet and I echo the sentiments in melissas’s comment: we owe it all to Susie.
I love the post, showing the cowl-train!
BEST POST EVER. (And best swap ever, too!)
this is definitely very cool! all look fabulous~
Amber, I just couldn’t resist jdunsmore’s matching cat photo, even though it didn’t show off the beautiful cowl to its full potential!
This whole BFF Cowl thing was one of the best things to affect my life in a long time! I love all these women and want to thank Susan for starting this wonderful community. We would not be here if not for her!!
Lauria thanks for this blog, I love how you did it. ♥muah♥
Now I’m sad I sat this one out! I’m having trouble completing ANY task in a timely manner nevermind knitting on a deadline so I didn’t dare take part. (Plus, some of the knitting on the cowls intimidated me!)
I adore many of the women in this group though most don’t know it since I lurk and rarely post.
I, too, want to thank Susan for starting the CSA, creating such a wonderful blog, and allowing this community to flourish in its own organic manner.
This swap made for the best Valentine’s Day ever!
I keep coming back to this post and just smiling as I follow the chain of Aunties. Too much fun.
