Design Contest for Chadwick & Willa!

by Susan on January 5, 2012

I am super excited to announce that KFI and Juniper Moon are hosting a design contest. Check here to read all the details, rules, etc., but the Cliff Notes version is that we are looking for designs made with our Chadwick and Willa yarns. The catch? Each patten can only use one or two balls of yarn.

Chadwick and Willa are two of the yarns in the Juniper Moon commercials yarn line that are available at all these darling shops and online. (A staggering number of shops are carrying JMF starting in the Spring and I’ll be updating the list soon.)

Here’s what you need to know about the yarns:

Chadwick is 60% Merino Wool/40% Baby Alpaca. It’s a single ply and comes with 3.5 oz./202 yards in a center pull ball. It is an absolute dream to knit with! So soft and lofty. I am a little bit in love with Chadwick!

Willa is 60% Merino, 40% Super Fine Kid Mohair blend in a bulky weight with what I call an ice cream cone twist. I wanted to make this yarn particularly because so many knitters think they don’t like mohair. I aways say, “if you don’t like mohair it’s because you’ve never knit with good mohair.” Super Fine Kid Mohair doesn’t have any of the itch associated with lesser quality mohair, it’s gloriously soft and has a lovely sheen. It does shed a bit while you’re knitting but you cannot find a softer, lighter-weight yarn once you’re done. 153 yards in a center-pull ball, so you’re going to have to be creative with this one!

KFI has really pulled out all the stops on this contest; the two first place designers will each be showered with $300 in the JMF yarns of their choice! There are fantastic prizes for the two 2nd place, 3rd place and honorable mention designs too, so get your yarn and start designing right away. The deadline for entries is February 15th.

Don’t forget to see all the rules and info here.

Good luck, y’all. I can.not.wait. to see what lovely thing you all come up with.

Chadwick is my favorite yarn of all time. And, people? I am a yarn ho, so this is saying a lot. Now, what can I do with just two balls of the wooly goodness????

What a great challenge … I just may be up for it. And those colors … scrumptious!

Fantastic idea – can UK knitters enter please and if so where can we buy? I’ve looked at the online sites that you link to but can’t find your yarn there! Do you have any UK outlets please?

Fabulous challenge for the new year, a chance to create a one ball crochet pattern in sweet squishy Chadwick! Can we enter more than one pattern per yarn or for each?

Absolutely Karen! I am especially excited about crochet patterns so I hope you’ll do two.

I am SO entering two patterns now, a hat & matching scarf. KFI reads that we can use one or two balls and since we crocheters use 30% more yarn than knitters (which does cause tension between us), I will need almost two balls. I am so excited that I ordered more yarn on Friday! Writing the pattern has become a challenge in itself since I am a visual crocheter and don’t really follow patterns, so mine will be “written for dummies” :)

Wondering if the final project is considered “original” if a specific stitch (or combination of stitch) patterns from a stitch library or resource book is used? I would think it is proper to site where the stitch pattern came from? Please advise. Newbie to the pattern writing, self-admitted. Thanks!

Hi Camille! Using a stitch form a stich library is A-OK! I am so excited to see what you come up with.
