Introducing Chadwick!

by Susan on April 5, 2011

The first thing I want to tell you about this yarn is that it’s named for one of my personal heros. Alan Chadwick was a leading innovator of organic farming techniques and brought biodynamic farming to America.

The next thing I want to tell you is that Jenny refers to Chadwick as “the one that’s gonna make us famous”. This yarn is so special, so soft and so lofty that you may never want to knit with anything else. 60% Merino Wool/40% Baby Alpaca. Single ply. 3.5 oz. 202 yards in a center pull ball. And oh my! The colors!

Black Magic, Swimming Pool, Patti’s Pink

Mystic, Clear Skies, Mercury

Indian Paintbrush, Dawn, Hannah

Blush, Clean Sheets, Mississippi Mud

For Chadwick, Tanis has come up with lots of fun, fair isle projects, sweaters and accessories that you will love, but honestly, you can knit anything out of Chadwick and it will become your favorite FO.(That’s knitter talk for “finished object”.)

Several of you have asked where and when you can get your hands on the three new Juniper Moon Farm lines. The yarn will be released for Fall/Winter 2011 and will be coming to a local yarn shop near you. This is where we need your help! We need you to encourage your local yarn shop owner to order Juniper Moon Farm’s new yarn lines. All you have to do is tell them that you are anxiously awaiting these yarns and ask if they will be carrying them. Write the name down for them if you have to and tell them KFI is the distributor. We can’t get this yarn to you unless your shop orders it, so please let them know you want it!

We will have some samples of the yarns at our Spring Shearing Celebration and, of course, we’ll be representing them at TNNA in Columbus Ohio this June. In the meantime, help us start the buzz!

I’ll be making a big tour of yarn shops that carry the lines this fall, along with a trunk show of all of Tanis’s amazing creations. I’ll post a schedule here on the website so you can find out when I’m coming to your town and come down for a meet-up!

Wow. Just Wow. I’m blown away by all three yarns.

I’m going to contact Fiber Space in Alexandria VA – are they on your radar? Great great shop and they would do a lovely job hosting your trunk show. Tanis probably knows the store – I think she is/was local to that area? Anyhoo, I’ll beg them to carry the line.

Any idea what the retail prices will be for the yarn? ‘Cause I already know I want lots and lots and my unemployed budget is straining as it is so I’ll have to plan carefully!

Wow! Thanks Dina. I don’t know the prices off the top of my head but I’ll find out and let y’all know ASAP. XO

Oh, how beautiful! You have some really nice green shades going!

So so so so proud and happy for all of this!! Have talked to my boss at yarn store (we’re the best in Dublin, if I do say so myself!) and she will be asking Designer Yarns, the equiv of KFI in the UK, if they’ll be getting it in, cause she’s interested :D . I know she’d love to stock it, so we’ll be pushing for this to come across the pond.

At the very least, I’ll be ordering some online for MeMeMe!

Congrats Susie. I can’t say how wonderful it’s been watching this journey of yours.

I just figured it out. YOU NEVER SLEEP.

And Jenny is right these yarns are absolutely gorgeous. Can’t wait to FEEL them. And single ply? I LOVE that. So yummy. I’ll be pushing these yarns at the C’ville shops.

Chadwick is my favorite! I wove with it on Susan’s triangle loom at fall shearing and was skeptical – I generally don’t like single ply. But, this? Was a dream. And absolutely dream. I’m going to be getting bunch in Mercury and making a cardigan jacket.
Autumn hurry . . .

These are beautiful, Susan. I love the blue and red and green and……

I will go with you to Ireland for that visit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jane from Maryland April 5, 2011 at 9:34 am

Oh, dear, too beautiful for words. Oh, dear, I am in yarn lust trouble.

It would be awesomely helpful if someone could make up a page that we could download and print, showing the pictures of each new yarn, the name of the distributor, etc. which we could all print off our home computers and take with us to the LYS’s we visit and leave with the owner/managers. That way, they wouldn’t FORGET to order it and their other customers could see and want, too! I’ve got three shops in mind in North Carolina/SW Va. area already, and I’m not even straining my brain (yet)… so excited!

You know, I can recommend a couple VERY nice yarn shops here in NJ that I think should absolutely be on your distribution/tour list, and we could even provide a place to sleep while you’re in the area (grin)!

That Mississippi Mud is so delicious I want to use it to make Pie.

They are ALL super yummy.

Hey, one of the colors bears my name! It’s kismet. :D

Rachel Barnes April 5, 2011 at 1:54 pm

Susan,
There is a wonderful yarn shop in San Francisco called ImagiKnit. You should look them up and the owner is a very nice lady. Next time I am in the area I will mention your yarn to them and insist they carry it!
I also want to say that you have been such an inspiration to me. You keep my dreams alive of one day having animals of my own to raise for their beautiful fiber. Thank you for all of your hard work and for sharing both your joys and struggles with the world. You provide so much hope when it sometimes seems like there is none. Blessings to you and your Farm!

Wow. Just wow. They even LOOK uber-soft in the photos. I cannot WAIT to be able to get these in the store, but I have a feeling I’ll be buying them online. There really isn’t a LYS near me. The closest one is a ways away, but I’ll be making a trip there soon – my SO gave me a gift certificate there for our anniversary!

Hi Susan,
What is meant by “baby” alpaca? Is this the first fleece from an alpaca cria or is this just a designation, like kid mohair, of alpaca fiber that is of a certain fineness minimum?
Boy, new lambs, new website, new products–all happening at the same time—you are either amazingly focused, a little bit crazy or perhaps a bit of both! :-)

Shirra April 5, 2011 at 10:18 pm

Again with the colors. I wont be able to choose! I’ve already started bothering my LYS owner, and I know she orders from KFI already so it was one of those “Hey, you have some KFI yarn. My friend Susan from JUNIPER MOON FARM is working with them now. Yeah, Fall 2011. Gorgeous stuff…” If I have to stalk her and camp out on her doorstep when the rep comes, I’ll do it! You know I will.

Susan April 5, 2011 at 10:45 pm

Deb, that’s a great idea! I will do it asap.
