A Little Charley Update

by Susan on September 7, 2010

This is what Charley does most of the time. He is just a little baby- only 3 weeks old!- and he is a big sleeper. He likes to be in my lap or snuggled up beside me while he’s snoozing, and he often wiggles his nose and moves his wee feet when he dreams.

When he isn’t sleeping, Charley loves to play with toys. He pushes balls all over the house with his snout and chases them when they start to roll. When he runs, he oinks with every step. I’ll try to get some video of it tomorrow.

Cute overload!

Oinks are a known stress reliever. We could all use ‘em! Oink, oink.

Anna September 7, 2010 at 8:52 pm

Cant wait to see (hear!) the video!

Suzy September 7, 2010 at 9:26 pm

SO CUTE!!! But I think Gully is going to need a couple of picks on the blog so he doesn’t feel left out! I still heart my Gullyman…

Melissa September 7, 2010 at 9:36 pm

He looks like he’s walking on tip toe! I can’t wait to see video of him running around oinking. And I love his stylish vest too :)

I am suffering greatly from his painful cuteness. Please cuddle and snorgle him for me.

this is too much. I am not a big fan of dressing up the kids, but this!!! Knowing nothing of piglets, 3 weeks seems so very young, were there issues with mom? I read Caroline’s comments a post or two ago. Was she hand rearing them? And now you, Charley?

Jan Cooper (jcoop on ravelry) September 7, 2010 at 10:49 pm

He is totally adorable. But I can’t stop wondering–why is he wearing a sweater (turtle neck, no less) in early Sept. in Virginia, especially at the end of this summer, with all its terrible heat? And more please about the sweater? handknit? or does some company specialize in piglet argyle? How does your little dog get along with him?

I know you probably don’t have time to answer so many questions, but if you need some blog material perhaps they help?

Susan September 7, 2010 at 11:11 pm

You’re cracking me up, Jan! I am normally not one to dress animals in clothes but baby pigs don’t start generating their own heat until 2 or three weeks old. With the AC set to 78 and all the ceiling fans in the house on, my little man was shivering! I picked up a sweater at Petco that he’ll probably outgrow in a couple of weeks. As an added bonus, the sweater makes it much easier to photograph Charley. Black animals are so difficult to capture. Charley has the most thoughtful gorilla eyes but I can’t seem to make them come across due to his color.

Fran, Caroline was hand raising the piglets- five of them if you can imagine!- although orphaned piglets tend to be fed from a dish rather than a bottle, which makes matters easier. Charley is totally self-sufficient already. he taught himself to use the litterbox and hasn’t had one accident in the house. The litterbox and his food, water, bed and toys are in the laundry room, and he just goes in there when he needs anything.

i am in love
i just want to kiss his little feet
they are so delicate and sweet

i am a LITTLE disappointed he doesn’t have a hand knit sweater….but i’ll get over it…especially because he’ll out grow this one.
perhaps a home knit spiffy cap for the winter (with ear holes of course) will a necessary accessory…just a thought….

he is so precious
i’m glad he’s already litter trained and loves to play
feeling @ home already

i love snuggling animals
my sweet pupster and i snuggle every nite
thank god for animals!

Susan, thanks for the info on Charley. You know we are a curious bunch, especially where such cuteness is concerned!!

Carolyn C September 8, 2010 at 8:11 am

At three weeks, why is he away from his Mother?

Melissa September 8, 2010 at 8:29 am

He’s just too precious! Practical questions…what does he eat and where does he “go”? And how big will he get? I love that he wears sweaters and sleeps on the couch. He’s just adorable.

Melissa September 8, 2010 at 8:31 am

Nevermind…must learn to read before posting.

Jenny September 8, 2010 at 9:14 am

I have a fabulous idea for a television show. The Charley Network. All Charley All The Time. I’d be riveted. I’d buy from the sponsors.

bj September 8, 2010 at 9:27 am

omg sooooooooo cute!

Christine September 8, 2010 at 10:34 am

Omigosh, a pig in a sweater! You totally made my day.

Bill Horvath September 8, 2010 at 10:43 am

He’s so cute! How is Gulliver taking to the new companion?

Jean September 8, 2010 at 11:08 am

I just found your site. We have been companion pig searching for some time now. May I ask what breed “lil Charlie” is? We have a small farm and would love to add a pig to our farm friends.

Brenda September 8, 2010 at 2:47 pm

I just swooned over all this cuteness.

Georgia N. September 8, 2010 at 7:13 pm

I can’t say it enough – Charley is SOOOOO cute! I don’t know what I love best but I think his pink little lips are precious and those pink feet are adorable too. He is just too cute. Wish I was closer to come visit!

AdriH September 9, 2010 at 1:50 pm

Charley… you’ve stolen my heart!

That is the cutest animal I’ve seen (since the kids photos). I do have a question about mini pigs, and maybe others have asked before, but how big do mini pigs get?

Shirra September 11, 2010 at 8:11 am

Ok. Now we all want a cute mini pig! He’s adorable! He looks so handsome in his vest.
