It’s Maggie again. Susan is back safe and somewhat sound from TNNA. Her docs in Columbus decided she has idiopathic iritis. Keep in mind, idiopathic just means “we have no idea why you have it” iritis.
I’m driving her to a specialist in town tomorrow morning first thing for further treatment. The steroid drops and pain pills are keeping her comfortable, but bored beyond belief. She still can’t look at a computer screen for more than a minute or so, can’t really read because it requires too much light, can’t really watch TV…needless to say, she’s very much looking forward to the resolution of this mess!
Welcome chicks!

Knitting? Because if it’s something straightforward, you don’t necessarily need to see it. (I knit socks in dark movie theaters, so I know what I’m talking about.)
Poor Susan, though–I hope this heals quickly! We all worry about you, you know.
Thanks for the update, Maggie!
heal up fast! and sounds like you need audible.com!!!
Poor Baby!!!! Harry Potter Books on Tape – Or how about Moby Dick? Treasure Island?
So sorry this happened. I”m sure you’re bored bored bored – we know sitting still isn’t easy for you! At least with a diagnosis there’s hope you’ll get better soon.
Iritis is not fun… glad she’s getting it looked at by a specialist.
Nightmare! I hope everything heals up soon!
I second the books on tape!
I third the audio books – have you ever read Denise Mina? Not quite Kate Atkinson, but also Scottish & writes really absorbing characters.
Oh man. So glad you are HOME. Being sick or in pain is awful on its own, but when you are AWAY it always seems so much worse!
My thoughts go out to you, Susan. Sending wishes for a quick recovery. I recommend Radiolab, This American Life, and To The Best of Our Knowledge podcasts to pass the time…
So sorry Susan is. Having such a rough time. Pick her up a few books on cd from the library. I loved Carol Drinkwaters’s olive farm series. I also started the book with Julia child’s letter, enjoyed that too. Send her our love please and wish her well.
Audiobooks! You can download many online for free, through your local library or LIbravox.org. Or you can buy them inexpensively as downloads as well.
Thanks for the update!
Definitely time for audible and maybe a very easy red scarf project. Wish you a speedy recovery, Susie.
Thanks for keeping us updated, Maggie!

Susan’s iris SUCKS! Slap it around a little, whip it into shape. Thanks for the update, poor kiddo. I hope she’s feeling better!
Thanks for the update. Get well soon, Susie!
My husband has had a couple instances of iritis – related to his arthritis. The first time was awful – hope Susan heals quickly. The second time he recognized the symptoms in the first couple of days and had it taken care of so quickly he was fine that week.
Hmmm, seems I might have to pick up some of the books recommended! Audio books would be great to listen to while knitting!
Please get well soon, want to hear what the specialist says, so will be checking in again tomorrow. Yikes, the things our bodies do to us!!
Library….books on Cd or Playbacks….they are prerecorded on cute little devices that look like Ipods. And it’s free. Good luck. You are in my prayers for a full recovery…and a speedy one. Lucy
audio books, audio books, audio books. From the library. If they have finger prints on them, wipe the discs with rubbing alcohol on pure cotton balls. If need be, dry the disc with pure cotton balls. Finger prints are usually at the edge. If you don’t mind a little crackle, it’s an easy why to tell when you are near the end of the disc. Be careful, they become addictive as you can listen and do something else (eventually, when the eye is better.) Take care. And thanks Maggie, for the update and keeping the farm going so Susan can relax and recover!
My Dad has suffered from iritis several times over the years and his definition of iritis is “hey dummy, the eye is inflamed’. Make sure you keep up with the dilation drops. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
Thinking of you Sue, and thank you Maggie for keeping us updated.
Wishing you luck today!
Glad to hear that they have a name for it, but that wikipedia entry is seriously scarey–hope Susan’s not reading it. Does I second everybody’s audio suggestions–podcasts & books. People say the Stephen Frye’s Podgrams are hilarious. Does she have an audible membership?
oh, no!!
yes, get her some audiobooks!
Here’s more wishes that you are better soon. And thanks Maggie for the updates.
Hope you feel better soon Susan. Sending healing thoughts your way!
