Probably something you would like…

Still looking for the perfect Father’s Day gift? This is so weird but so badass. Help support giant rats (ROUSes!) trained to use their exceptional sense of smell to clear land minds in Africa and detect TB in patients.

The Washington Post picks 11 great cookbooks for Summer and my friend Susie Middleton’s book is on it! So buy it already- I promise you’ll love it. I also love The River Cottage Preserves Handbook. I just got it but it looks very promising.

An artist who “paints” with Rubik’s Cubes. Just amazing.

This animated dog created with embroidery by Aubrey Longley-Cook of Spool Spectrum leaves me speechless. It very nearly got it’s own post the moment I saw it.

The finest tutorial on making fresh pasta I’ve ever seen. Bookmark it.

The smallest Eeyore ever!

I know. I know. I’m a sucker for animals mothering babies of another species. But “Grieving chihuahua become mom to 9 kittens” nearly did me in.

Homemade pop tarts at smitten kitchen. I want to make these using homemade strawberry and peach jam as the fillings.

I love the details of this Farm Fresh Wedding. It’s perfect.

I’ve always wanted to make a Vodka Watermelon for a party…

I really like this swing made from a the stave of a retired wine barrel. So graceful. Wishing I had a large enough tree…

I could eat Salad Nicoise every day of summer, but without the hard-boiled eggs and with grilled tuna instead of canned.

New blog crush! Little Brown Pen.

I want to make strawberry fruit leather.

Grilled strawberries with Pimm’s and vanilla ice cream. Yes, please!

These are the things making me happy this week. What’s making you happy? Share your links in the comments.

ETA: Y’all are really bringing it this week in the comments! There are some great links and ideas in there, so be sure to check them out.

Not for sale, but spending the day with Suzy and Sierra is right at the top of my list. A trip to the LYS to get our reserved copies of Wild Fibers (and where we sort of did a presentation about JMFF to the people there; a gourmet lunch at Subway LOL; followed by a trip to the Science Museum. Suzy got a family pass and listed me so at least in one place I’m a for real member of her family. And then after playing with all the experiment stuff and a show in the planetarium, I got my very own make-a-crystal kit! And if that wasn’t enough…guess what? We went to Sonic for cold drinks! That was thanks to Sierra who was going on about “when we were in Susie’s car and we got ice cream with M&Ms in it”. Detective me figured out it was a Sonic Blast. A very good day!

I love it all! GIANT RATS trained to SNIFF TB! I just sent that, and the only scientific reference I could find on them, to my residency class. And kittens! And running embroidered dog of amazement! And so much more. You rock, and I’ve missed you!

Reddirt! You are so a part of my family…even if the only offcial record…so far…is with the Oklahoma Science Museum!!!!

Also? Those are some seriously yellow egg yolks in that salad nicoise picture. They mesmerize me. In a strange way.

That animated embroidered dog is just WONDERFUL.

The chihuahua and those kittens! I’m dying here. So so sweet. What’s been inspiring me for so long are these tights: http://www.folkandfairy.com/2010/05/mermaid-skin.html
They’ve been my background for a month now and I could still look at them forever.

If I make a salad nicoise with chicken instead of tuna, is it still nicoise? Or is it something entirely different?

This video makes me happy: it’s of a local sea turtle getting acupuncture treatment.

If you can find it, smoked tuna makes an AWESOME swap in nicoise. I’m getting some at the farmer’s market tomorrow, that makes me happy =)

OMG! Those ARE fantastic! Thanks for sharing.

Susan June 18, 2010 at 9:42 am

You have no idea how happy that made me. I worry about the sea turtles…

Susan June 18, 2010 at 9:42 am

I never even thought of that! I’m going to pick some smoked tuna up while I’m in C-ville today and try it.

I love the fabrics and handles on these lovely purses: http://www.pistol-stitched.com/index.php. She also sells on etsy I think.

And another cute turtle-y video… because we all need a little help now and again.

The chihuahua adopting the kittens is still making me squee.
