Good Morning, Sunshine!

by Susan on June 15, 2010

Have you ever seen a lovelier morning, my friends? I can tell you without a doubt that I haven’t because I woke up without any pain this morning! That’s right- my weirdo eye episode is over and I feel fan-flippin’-tastic! Let us all celebrate by talking about something else for a change, shall we?

Like the fact that, at last count, we were up to four new baby chicks, hatched by our very own Ethel. Or how excited I got last night working on some new projects, including the new fall colorways. Or just how all-fired lucky I feel to live at Juniper Moon Farm, to be a shepherd and to have such an A-MAY-ZING group of friends, readers and customers.

TNNA was a lot of fun, in spite of that-which-will-not-be-named. I got to hang out a lot with my friend Tanis, who always makes me laugh and eat more ice cream than I should. I’m not fussing about the ice cream because oh what ice cream it was! Jeni’s ice cream is the fuel of TNNA (I may have stolen that line from Jess; it sounds familiar…) and everyone eats it multiple times a day when they are lucky enough to be in Columbus, Ohio. I want you all to know that I may not have tried every single flavor but it wasn’t for lack of trying.

Guess what? You can order Jeni’s and have it shipped to you! It’s all I can do to make myself wait for a very special occasion. Like the day we change the batteries in the smoke detectors. Or the dining room table’s birthday.

In other, non-edible news, my first TNNA was sort of like that scene in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory when Charlie Bucket and those other brats are first led into the room with the chocolate river. I wanted to see everything, touch everything, meet everyone and just soak it all in. The colors! The fibers! The drop-dead gorgeous new patterns! The entire weekend was a creative re-charge, but in a very different way than sleepy, nurturing Squam Lake was the week before. I am so inspired and ready to create. Thank you, TNNA!

I also picked up a little sussy for you, my lovelies. della Q has a new travel needle case coming out in October but I snagged one at the show to give away to one of you lucky ducks.

From the della Q website: “A compact case that is perfect for traveling with your current project! There are three pockets for circulars, or perhaps interchangeable cords. Five pockets for double point needles up to 8″ long or interchangeable tips. A handy organizer to keep your stitch markers in order and a zip pocket for extra notions. Simply fold it in half and secure with the tie.”

These little cases are so beautiful AND covetable, ’cause when you whip yours out at your next knitting group and everyone wants to know where you got it, you can tell them that they won’t even be available in stores till OCTOBER!

To enter to win this little cutie, just leave a comment on this post telling me something fantastic that happened to you recently. [I'll get the ball rolling- the other day, there were four humming birds drinking from my feeder AT THE SAME TIME.] One comment per person please- although you are free to pack it with as much fantastic as you like. Entries close at midnight EST, Thursday, June 17th. One winner will be chosen at random and that person’s name will be posted here on the blog Friday morning. The winner will then have 24 hours to claim their prize or else we’ll draw again.

Good luck, y’all. Now go forth and wring every last drop of awesome out of this day. That’s an order!

Entries are now closed! I’ll be posting the winner in just a bit.

Hooray for healthy eyes. We have had many eye issues in my family… never any fun. Glad yours is back in fighting form!

Wonderfulness is listening to my not-quite-3 year old spontaneously burst into song and sing the ABC song all the way through — with her own entertaining commentary on some of the letters.

Grace June 15, 2010 at 3:59 pm

I am on day 5 of walking 1.5 miles at least once a work day from the train station to work. And I did both coming and going 3 times! I love it and it makes me feel fantastic!

Kris June 15, 2010 at 4:46 pm

so glad your eye is better!

something fantastic that happened to me recently is that I had a great weekend with friends and got to ride a carousel for the first time since I was a kid.

Amy June 15, 2010 at 4:47 pm

your optimism is contagious! my awesomeness includes emptying out my attic and moving it all over to our new house (all done of course while my 4 month old naps) and watching said baby figure out how to roll over onto her tummy!

I came home from a weekend away (at my son’s college graduation) and found that someone had mowed my yard for me while I was gone. It was like a little miracle had occurred in my yard! I still haven’t figured out who did it, but it was the nicest thing anyone could have done for me. I had shoulder surgery two weeks earlier and was wondering how I was going to accomplish all the chores that needed doing around the place with one arm.

I was just lucky enough to spend last week at a weaving retreat with Judith MacKenzie. She is such an amazing and fabulous teacher and I feel so lucky to be in her tutelage for any fibery (I’d take any non-fibery thing too, let’s be honest) thing.

I found out I’m pregnant! So I suddenly have deadlines for my knitting :) (yay!)

Birdsong June 15, 2010 at 5:24 pm

Love the idea.. well the most fantastic thing in the past week was seeing lots of the migratory birds return to my high Sierra Nevada home.. evening grosbeak, western tanager, black-headed grosbeak, hermit warbler. These critters are getting scarcer, so we were thrilled to welcome them back this year! Thanks for the contest:)

My brother called me out of the blue to chat. He usually waits for me to call him. It was a great way to start the week.

Erin June 15, 2010 at 5:59 pm

Yippee for painkillers! I hope you heal up quickly and, really, it would be nice to find out what happened so maybe it could never happen again.

I recently got to ride through gorgeous Madison county and up into the Blue Ridge mountains in a Jeep with no doors on it, and spend the day listening to bluegrass and an Irish accent. That’s my little fantastic.

I saved a baby bunny this morning from my hunter cat “mommy kitty”, but in the process got stuck in a window well the bunny had jumped down into to get away from the cat. The window well was deeper than I thought -up to my armpits and I’m hanging on to the bunny with one arm – rolled up in my dress to get him to stay still – and couldn’t lift myself up with the other. And the sides were wet and slick. Started calling my neighbor across the alley, but one living across the street heard me and came to my rescue. I’m sure I was a lovely sight and late for work, but we saved the bunny!

Glad the eye is better….iritis is VERY dangerous! (butletsnottalkaboutthatagain)

I’m glad you are now painfree! Fantastik – well today was beautiful and finally sunny after some cloudy rainy days. My roses are having one of the best blooming years too!

Amy June 15, 2010 at 7:10 pm

We were at an outdoor Celtic festival on Saturday. It was so darn, darn hot, outside Washington, DC. Then it rained and got cooler and then we saw a rainbow.

peggy connolly June 15, 2010 at 7:27 pm

my daughter moved back to be closer to home.

Melissa June 15, 2010 at 7:27 pm

It rained today which cooled off the 95+ degree weather. I had a wonderful conversation last night about life. I got to see my lovely brother and sister in law tonight. It was a good day :)

Lora June 15, 2010 at 7:36 pm

Yea! the peeps are pain free!

My most positive this week is the two new kittens for our farm. Not only are they tenderhearted and adorable they are much needed!

Deb Luckenbihl June 15, 2010 at 8:03 pm

Nancy June 15, 2010 at 8:10 pm

So glad you are feeling better!

muffinista June 15, 2010 at 8:54 pm

we closed on our apartment yesterday, after nine months of waiting! nothing more fantastic than that – except that you’re feeling better.

Betsy June 15, 2010 at 9:47 pm

Delta had a last-minute fare to my grandparents’ hometown for last weekend. So my mom and I went and had a great visit. Thanks for the giveaway

(Sorry about your eye, Susan, hope you feel better soon!)

Adelaide June 15, 2010 at 9:51 pm

Hope the eye continues to improve.

I got to spend the day today with a woman who has been my dear, dear friend through good and bad, boys and men, love and loss for 60 years. Best feeling in the world!

Emily S. June 15, 2010 at 9:58 pm

Something fantastic is that the meds they gave me this week seem to be helping me feel better FINALLY. Oh, and feeling better I went out and got my haircut today (totally let the hairdresser do what she wanted, cut it ALL off) and…. I LOVE it!

Kitty Vangunten June 15, 2010 at 10:26 pm

I took Regina Moss’ bead and wire knitting class and made a beautiful bracelet.

knittingfool aka lori June 15, 2010 at 10:44 pm

Yay for feeling-not-just-better-but-GREAT!

Something fantastic is easy-peasy: both daughters are home, and I won a spinning wheel!

kelly l June 15, 2010 at 10:44 pm

my fantastic is that I get to have the summer off and spend it with my 10 year old daughter! The first few days off have been wonderful!

Peggy June 15, 2010 at 11:26 pm

So glad you are feeling better. My something wonderful for the day is that I discovered a fawn placed under a blue spruce tree on one end of my house in the suburbs. I was able to watch the baby and also take a bunch of pictures from my living room window. Mama was foraging and came back to get her baby when it got dark. I was able to see the beautiful wild life so close and this made for a wonderful day. Nature is incredibly awesome.

Marlitharn June 16, 2010 at 1:30 am

Glad to hear you’re all better! Something fantastic…hmmm…well, the field behind my workplace is prime rabbit country; in the early mornings I can go outside and watch them gad about. That’s always fun!

Bri June 16, 2010 at 2:28 am

I went white water rafting last Saturday despite the weather going from 90 degrees the day before to 45 the day of (yeah, Colorado’s like that..) I had a fantastic time made even more fantastic because none of my party died or got frostbitten. =)

Sandi Oswalt June 16, 2010 at 4:02 am

Great to have you back in “blogging” shape! And love the chicks.
Something fantastic – how about my son started reading to me every night! Fantastic on so many levels – nothing better than hearing “Goodnight Moon” and “Make Way for Ducklings” read to me by a six year old!

Jen June 16, 2010 at 7:24 am

My wonderful… my husband and I are both teachers and we live 2 hours away from one another due to our jobs- impossible right now to find 2 teaching jobs together. BUT, summer has just begun and I have 2 months with him. It starts today and I’m so looking forward to our time together.

Barbara M. June 16, 2010 at 7:30 am

Hi, Susan…. I just moved from the NJ suburbs (most people train commute into NYCity, many Wall Streeters, every one busy and in a hurry) to rural NH….we’re a long way from a very small town. Yesterday I drove 20 minutes to the nearest grocery store, and I met 2 of the 6 people I know in this state! I love it here! I am so happy to be living where life is slower and my friends seem to be nearer!

Nancy L June 16, 2010 at 8:24 am

After directing an Eagle ceremony(Boy Scout) and everything went great. While packing things up the new Eagle came up to me and thanked me for all the things I helped him with in the last 8 years-handed me a dozen of roses and hugged me. I have to tell you it made me cry because I never expect anything but most importantly this boy never hugs anyone! And to receive a hug from him means more then anything in the world. It made his mother cry too because she didn’t know he was going to do it.

Jane from Maryland June 16, 2010 at 9:31 am

I went to the beach with a friend to walk, and the tide was low and the rocks weren’t bad, and we walked for ages on this beautiful morning. Wow!

Beth June 16, 2010 at 9:38 am

What a neato needle case! My “something fantastic” might sound a bit negative, but is actually a positive: my family and I made the decision to take ourselves out of a situation that was becoming unhealthy for us. The future holds some uncertainties, but I feel as light as air…toxic relationships weigh us down more than we realize.

Deb Clemens June 16, 2010 at 10:03 am

so much awesome is going on…. baby goats… lambs… a bunch of baby chicks and bunnies, too… a NEW HOUSE in North Carolina, a barn to design and a move to do, RETIREMENT coming up and visits from old and new friends. I am overwhelmed and excited at the same time. Time to knit would be a luxury right now. just as is time to spin and weave. Congratulations on feeling better, it is such a relief when that happens and makes you appreciate your own healthy self.

Shannon June 16, 2010 at 10:30 am

Just a few days ago I had lunch with a friend I haven’t seen in over 10 Years! (she lives in another city) and I was so grateful to have things align in such a way that we were able to meet and catch up on my lunch break

Terri Moran June 16, 2010 at 11:05 am

My best moment this week was my first Pilates class. I could do everything despite my arthritis and feel very encouraged!

Christina Del Villar June 16, 2010 at 11:09 am

Just got back from an amazing 10-day vacation to Cape Cod. Everything about our trip was magical. Reminded me of how lucky I am to be able to do things like take a vacation. I know others aren’t so lucky.

Johanna June 16, 2010 at 11:12 am

I got a job interview for a position I’m really excited about! (Still waiting to hear back. *fingers crossed*)

lauria June 16, 2010 at 11:48 am

OMG You sound so happy and bouncy! I’m so glad that you’re feeling better. I know that IT was a torture!

Last night, I was over my bossfriend’s house and was feeding his 20 month baby girl. I said, “Hi, Lilly!” And she said back, “Hi Lor-e-ah.” I thought my heart was going to break into a million pieces just then. That was the first time she said my name without anyone coaching her how to do it and so confidently. It was so sweet.

That needle case would also be something fantastic!

kimberly June 16, 2010 at 5:47 pm

My fantastic thing was a day full of lovely, sweet clients. Not one mean one in the bunch! Seriously, I feel like I won the lottery.

Judy Borel June 16, 2010 at 7:11 pm

My fantasticness to report is the albino squirrel that’s been hanging out in my front yard for the last two weeks. She (or maybe it’s a he) has been frolicing with luxuriant black squirrel. I’m hoping for baby squirrels that may look like tuxedo cats or possibly skunks!

JMF June 16, 2010 at 7:34 pm

Speaking of hummingbirds, 2 days ago I had a hummingbird fly up next to me and I got spooked (thought it was a bee) and then pause in front of me as if it was checking me out still. :)

turtle June 16, 2010 at 7:57 pm

My daughter turned 18 last week and graduated high school as well as earned her associates degree in elec engineering (she’s very motivated). Another plus was having my mom out to visit for a few weeks, we’re having a blast! Glad your seeing better S!!

Heather June 16, 2010 at 9:12 pm

I’m a student Occupational Therapist, & one of my patients recently has made HUGE gains! It feels amazing to be able to help someone function again!

allison June 17, 2010 at 7:39 am

i’ve had the time to read whatever i like and have devoured a mystery and a memoir.

Sharon June 17, 2010 at 8:10 am

It is another beautiful day in between rain storms. I have lots of fiber to spin, lots of yarn to knit … and I have a new vehicle so I can finally make it to some of the fiber festivals I’ve been dying to get to.

jen June 17, 2010 at 9:59 am

I’m happy your freaky eye injury is healing up and feeling good!

Let’s see… so many fantastic things have happened to everyone! I recently moved into my very first real apartment from living in campus housing for four years of college and five years of grad school. I love living in a real neighborhood for once! And we have two porches, perfect for growing the herbs and tomatoes I have potted.

InJuneau June 17, 2010 at 3:08 pm

I love keeping up with what’s going on here and am glad to hear that your eye is getting better.

So, what fantastic has happened to me lately? Oh, I bought two gorgeous fleeces (though they haven’t arrived yet) that I’m looking forward to spinning (eventually). I also have had four hummingbirds at the feeder at a time numerous times lately, and one day last week there were actually five there, feeding from four ports–two of them were sharing!
