Pre-homesick

by Susan on May 31, 2010

Here’s something you may not know about me: I am a freak. No matter how excited I am about going on an adventure I always get anxious and homesick even before I leave the farm. When I went out to feed the flock tonight I was on the verge of tears. How can I possibly contemplate going away for 6 whole days?

Oh how I will miss that tiny little lamb!

How can I leave Sabine and Lucy?

And Cini! He’s the hardest working livestock guardian dog in show biz.

But he also has a hilarious side. Just look at that smile!

I will even miss the pesky Hannah.

I will especially miss my sweet Gulliver. He is really a one woman dog and he gets kind of depressed when I’m away. Seriously, Maggie has to force him to get out of bed every day when I’m gone.

I’m sure I’ll have a great time at Squam. And I’m even surer I’ll be super-excited to get back to the farm on Sunday.

I know exactly how you feel! In fact, I am leaving tomorrow morning for a 6-day adventure that will include sailing on the ocean AND picking up two goats (crossed fingers – my foundation does!) and although I am of course excited about the trip, I am already looking forward to pulling into my own dirt driveway on Sunday and looking for critters welcoming me home. Leaving home is HARD. We must be doing something right, if home is so, so sweet!

I totally get that same feeling…It’s like being left at camp…right? Yep, I know that one…don’t leave home without it!!

Tiny Rush looks great! I miss my Rush, but I’m pretending yours is mine now. I smile like crazy every time you post pics!

Have fun at Squam…wish I was going…

No matter how much I want to go, I always dread leaving. I start asking why would I want to leave and risk having something bad happen to me or to everyone left at home. Once I’m off the farm, I’m fine until time to go home. Then I’m anxious all over again til I’m back home and everything is okay. I agree with Quinn, we must be doing something right.

Well said! I feel exactly the same way as you except I DON’T go for that very reason! So, you may have those feels but at least you can summon the courage to go anyway. Kudos to you for grit and bravery.

It was so nice to see a picture of Mr. G. I have been wondering how he was doing.

I know exactly how you feel. I love to travel, but the closer I get to any trip, the more I start to question why I’m leaving my wonderful home. Of course, once I’m actually gone, I have a good time, but it’s so hard to think about what I’m leaving behind.

susan
i hope you don’t worry too much but
i can totally empathize with you

one suggestion (will either work well or bomb) is (if u’ll be around a computer with skype AND can receive skype on your funky internet service @ home)

is to skype gulliver
of course maggie will have to assist
but that way he could see and hear you in real time.

like i say–that’ll either go over well or bomb.

have a save and lovely trip

You’ll be fine & have a good time. I love the way you shot Rushworth from below–he looks like a tiny, skinny giant. Have fun @ Squam and your homecoming will be great.

Safe travels Susan! And if you’re a freak, I’m a Big Freak. I get in a similar way before trips.

Aren’t Rush and Gulliver small enough to take as carry-on luggage? Just bring ‘em along!! :-)

That’s a great picture of Gully. He actually looks even-tempered and respectable.
