Amelia and Daisy both graced us with twin ewe lambs this morning.
These are Amelia’s twins.
Daisy surprised the hell out of me. She has always singled in the past and only had one lamb when we found her this morning. A full hour later after we’d cleaned the three babies up and gone inside for breakfast, we heard something on the baby monitor. Maggie ran outside and found another ewe lamb with Daisy.
As near as we can tell, Amelia’s twins were born between 8:00 and 8:30 a.m. making Erin (postcardsfromNorfolk) the winner of the lambing contest. Erin, you get to choose a name from Jane Austen for our first born lamb.
The only sour note to our day was the fact that Amelia was attacked by a predator before going into labor. She is fine, apart from a few scratches and a bitten off ear. Cini must have run the coyote or dog off pretty quickly or we’d have lost her and the two beautiful ewe lambs she was carrying.
During all the lambing madness, Teddy (Tosh’s dad) and Robert showed up to help us get our new sign up. We still have to paint the post black but I couldn’t resist showing you a pic. Isn’t it lovely?

Who doesn’t love babies!!!! Congratulations and your sign looks great!
Love, love, love the sign! And love Cini for guarding his flock so well! And of course, love all the baby lambs!
Yay!!! Jackpot!!!! I cannot wait to hear the names for the cuties. We are going to have to have collars with name tags to keep them all straight!
The sign is amazingly beautiful…what a great Monday!
Lovely indeed! So glad Amelia didn’t get more seriously hurt. Could the shock of the attack have sent her into labor earlier than otherwise?
Looking forward to seeing all the new lambs and learning their names!
The happiest days are when babies are born! So glad to hear that the babies and mamas are doing fine. The new sign looks great, too!
Congrats on the new babies! I am so happy that you have all girls so far as that was your wish!
Love the sign, looking forward to the day I will see it in person!
Congratulations to Susie, Maggie, Daisy, Amelia and Aldo! Beautiful babies.
Hooray for Cini!! What sweet, skinny little lambs–they’ll fill that cute wrinkly skin out in no time. All ewes in the first round–hope that’s a sign of things to come. (Fine sign too, BTW).
Could we name one of the boy lambs Sweet Willie in honor of Erins goat? I know it goes against the naming convention, I was just hoping…
Did the bad guy really take her ear off or really damage it? It must feel something awful when you know that you do everything you can to protect your flock and stuff like this happens. So glad she was able to deliver to healthy and hardy lambs and that Cini was at his best!
Four Baby Girls!!! Awesome!
Love the new sign. Is it 3D? It looks like the little lamb is popping out from the background!
Wow, what a Monday for you all. Four sweet baby girls who are a-doooooor-able. Glad Cini took care of whatever attacked Amelia…good dog, good dog.
The sign is beautiful…. maybe someday Deb and I will see it in person…
Fresh from the egg with the yolk still on!
oh the face on that last baby picture… The sign looks great!!! I always have so many questions about the goings on, who’s who and such, like ‘(she) only had one when we found her’… (I hate to say this, since you are so busy and getting busier, any chance you are thinking of a FAQ or general who’s who of your flock? (When I read smittenkitchen and read her FAQ, I thought “I wish there was one on the Juniper Farms site” (maybe because I got to smittenkitchen from your breakfast pizza from one of your posts…)
beautyredefined, Susan said the shock of the attack could have spurred her labor. The babies seem a-ok, though, not “premature”, and Amelia is doing WORLDS better than this morning.
Leslie, the predator did in fact take a portion of her ear–perhaps the bottom third. She has some other cuts on her head too, but is eating and drinking happily (and being a great mom!), and we’re keeping a close eye on her wounds to make sure they’ll heal properly. We’re very glad Cini was on the job to chase off whatever nasty thing it was.
Lauria, the sign is 3D! It’s so pretty! The lamb is carved so it stands out. it’s especially nice with the sun on it–he looks like a real lamb.
Fran, when we took Amelia and her babies into the lambing stall, Daisy had *just* popped out her first baby. No exaggeration, I happened to go out to the barn about an hour after her first lamb, and there was a surprise baby!
Look at that sweet face in the lamb in the second to last picture! It definitely needs more snorgling!
The sign is gorgeous!
Sorry we missed the grand arrival! Glad to hear everyone’s out OK so far. Our regards to Big Maggie!
So precious. And the sign kicks butt. If I were driving down that road, I’d leave skid marks on it from screeching to an abrupt halt to go yarn shopping!
so close on winning the contest… and yet so far! LOL
SO EXCITED about new babies!!!!
Hooray!!! I am going to have to come see those babies!!! And good job, Cini!!!!!!!
how wonderful on the new babies, and i luv the new sign! lol, makes my old t-shirt out of date now!
Maggie – thanks for the reply, I will keep good thoughts for our Amelia’s ear to heal and that all the babies thrive!
Susie – WOW, just read your Blog Post to Huffington Post. It was worded perfectly, now to get it out to more people, that cheap is not always good. The harm done to the land, and the animals for money, questionable at best. Keep writing and getting the word out, not enough people really know the gritty of the business.
i love that sign!!
Thanks Maggie, I read it as you acquired Daisy by finding her and she had a lamb when you did… Can we say MondayMorning???
Susan, you rocked on the Huffington Post blog!! I purchased some yarn manufactured in China without realizing it. As pretty as it is, it sucks for knitting. I read labels more now and if I can’t find the item made somewhere else, I try to do without. We have so many more options with yarn than to go to China…. Sorry for the long reply, but it’s something I have a strong opinion about…
Beautiful sign! The yarn shop is open and 4 brand-new lambs? I wanna be there!
Is that sign well bolted down? It’s sooo cute.
Happy Birthday,2 Ewes!
Happy Birthday, 2 Ewes!
Happy Birthday sweet lambkins,
Happy Birthday 4 Ewes!
I love the new sign, and congrats on the babies!
Why are the lambs yellow? (From someone who doesn’t know a darn thing about birthing no lambs.)
Sometimes the lambs have a bowel movement in in utero. It’s called meconium and it’s sterile, so it doesn’t hurt them. It will rub off in a few days.
Love those baby lambs. Thanks for the smile.
congratulations
welcome babies
good job cini
next time be there sooner!!! (that was for cini!)
Glad Momma, pooch and lambies survived. I just read in The Week that a human moma gave birth to twins… A WEEK APART.
You just never know.
Sign is inviting.
lovely lambs! waiting for my own to arrive in a few weeks. so I get my lamby-fix by seeing yours! Read your blog for the “you’re not the only one” reality of farmlife. I really hate to be the only one to mention this- but do so as a hmmmmm…. moment for you to consider. Ewes can be very maternal, even to the point of challenging their guard dog. I know of several cases of “good” guard dogs that did attack a member of their flock. The injuries that I know of were facial in nature. Perhaps the dogs thought they were just putting their charge back in their place. I only mention it so you can consider it. Perhaps the pregnant ewes are not the best place for this dog right now. Our animals are silent. They only give us clues to read, without other clues to indicate outside predator – neighborhood problems, fence line stretch or break, etc. I would consider this. In my experience, predators go for the back side of the animal.
Good luck with a new season of farming & the new shop!
Cheryl
LOVE the pictures of all the beautiful babies! Congrats on your newest additions
Oh wow! I’ve been suffering from horrible vertigo for the last couple weeks and totally missed this!! OK, I choose: Emma, because it’s a sweet name for a sweet lamb
