Best Snowman Ever

by Susan on February 3, 2010

I am in love with this awesome snowman that my neighbors up the road built. Isn’t he great?

I am also in love with my flock. From left to right: Dakota, Delaware, Colorado and Cosmo.

Sweet, enormous Alabama.

I am feeling a little bit achey and feverish today. It’s weird, cause last year I was sick ALL THE TIME. I got every single cold and bug that went around. But since moving to Virginia I haven’t been sick once. Not so much as a sniffle.

But, seeing as how this is the time of year that I always get pneumonia, I’m going to try to fight off whatever I have. Nip it right in the bud. Going to bed with a large glass of OJ and am going to try to sleep this thing off.

Unfortunately, it means I won’t be able to post the Fall 09 colors until next week. Don’t worry; they will be worth waiting for.

Pictures, Mom? Huh, can we? Can we? We line up for cute pictures!
Throw some vodka into that OJ – or tequila for a sunrise – guaranteed to cure what ails you. Feel better!

Oh, Susie….take care of yourself….I just spent 28 days in the hospital, 8 of them in ICU, cause I got the ugly P-NU-MONIA….ended up with Respiratory Failure. Am home now, O2 all the time, Getting a cup of coffee for myself is a major event! So I sit in my chair, pet the puppy, and knit dishclothes. Anything more difficult is still beyond me! But I am getting better, stronger every day. So take care of yourself, cause I didn’t,, and you don’t want to follow me to this place!!! PLEASE TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF!!!

Hope you recover soon! That snowman is amazing. I have been inspired by your blog to cover more farm-stuff on the Knit Weekly feature I make for The Hub radio show; thanks to twitter and Caroline of Farmers Weekly, it looks like I will be able to do a knitting feature on a sheep farm right here in Oxford, UK! Thanks for keeping me inspired re: the sheep, your flock are lovely and I never tire of the gorgeous photos you post of them.

Keep at the OJ,

Cheers,
Felix

I read on a knitter’s blog (I have forgotten who’s it was) that at the first sign of a cold, she gets a bottle of elderberry extract and makes a tea with it. It greatly boosts your immune system. When ever my husband or I feel a cold coming on, we drink 1 Tablespoon in a cup of hot water with honey and lemon 4 times a day. We nip the cold in the bud…usually 4 days from start to finish. The only thing else we take over the counter with it may be Tylenol to break the fever or keep the achiness away. Knitters and spinners are such smart people and they share their tips. This is one of the best I ever heard so I am passing it along to you. Love the photos. Feel better soon.

Your sheep are so darn cute! I was wanting to ask if I could use a photo of your sheep when I list items in my Etsy shop. Thought folks would like to see where my yarn comes from and I always mention your farm.
http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=39947001 just listed this today…your BERRY yarn.
Take care of yourself!
your friend,
Janet

Feel better!! A vendor at our local winter farmer’s market offered me this stuffy head, cough and cold remedy. As gross as it sounds, I’m sold on it. Simmer a large piece of fresh ginger in about 2 cups of water for about 20 minutes. While its simmering, put the following into a large coffee mug:
the juice of a whole lemon
a pinch of cayenne pepper
a splash of unsweetened cranberry juice

Fill your mug to the top with the ginger water and drink your cold away.

Dude, seriously. I started taking fish oil and I stopped getting sick. Ever. Just like that.

I’m having a bad night, and it’d be cooler if we were hanging out. Wouldn’t it be great if we were neighbors? How fun would that be?

I love that Dakota, Delaware, and Colorado look like football players with the black marks under the eyes! Maybe they’re all geared up for the super bowl?!?
Hope you feel better soon!

NeilMed nasal wash and liquid echinacea. I do the echinacea probably hourly when I start feeling sick and on till I don’t remember any more to take it ’cause I feel better. a dropper full under the tongue, the nasal wash a.m. and p.m..

The pics are, as usual, fab and I feel like I could reach out and pat the kids. Thanks and get well soon, we need our fix!!!

As far as your under the weather-ness goes, try taking some zinc supplements. I also whole-heartedly recommend the neilmed system. I work in an ICU and use this nasal wash daily, and I haven’t been sick *knock on wood* since last February. Before then, I got sick about every other month.

Don’t use echinacea long term, as it actually decreases you immune system. Nor should you use it if you have any sort of auto immune issue (Lupus, arthritis, etc). Otherwise, it can’t hurt. Vit. C is also great.

Most importantly, keep hydrated!

I don’t think I’ve commented on your posts before, but I just want you to know how much I enjoy reading your posts.
