Snowy Morning

I woke up to three inches of snow this morning. We could get as many as 12 inches, but I’m skeptical.

Paige is off this weekend so it was just me and flock.

Amazingly, our flock is still grazing on pasture, but not today. I couldn’t get the hay to them fast enough this morning.

Ernie looks like the Abominable Snowman.

DSC_0363We’ve been putting Sabine in the small paddock with Lucy during the day to stave off the depression Lucy was starting to suffer. The two of them play for hours and you would never know that Lucy nearly died a little over a week ago. It is so good for my spirit to see them together.

So GREAT to see Lucy. Such a precious little soul!

We’re to blame for your snow (moutains in Calif.) We spent the last week housebound with around 12 -16 inches. Most of it is gone now, but looking at another 5 days of rain, rain, rain. I’m thankful that I have a stock of wood and knitting projects!

Here in Virginia Beach, we have about 4 inches. It’s still snowing and they say more is coming. The Hampton Roads area has closed down. It’s pretty but cold and dangerous. The sheep look so cute covered in snow and the puppies look so happy! Glad that Lucy is feeling better. She looks like she loves that snow too.

Lucy looks so good! I’m glad she’s getting back to her more-than-a-handful self! Of course I don’t think Sabine minds too terribly much playing with her little best friend. The sheep look all sorts of cute with the snow on the coats. Is that the chicken coop to the right of the barn? If so, how do the chickens feel about snow?

It helps for me to see your sheep covered in snow and yet unconcerned. I’m still so new at this that I worry about my animals being cold! I did NOT put the coats on the little suri alpacas last night. So proud of myself. My sweet Pry is sleeping in a ball under the cover, surrounded by his sheep. I keep telling myself – it’s better than 105* in August! Thanks for the great pictures! Enjoy the scenery!

OH, Look at those two play! Cute!!!!! And I love Ernie even more as the Abominable Snowman.
(ok, so I called Sierra in to look at the cute pics of the snowy sheep…She named them all off – even covered with snow!)

Lovin’ the snow, and Ernie is such a great snowsheep. The dogs look wonderful, and the rest of the sheep are adorable as usual. Did I mention I am lovin’ the snow??

I don’t know what’s cuter – the sheep covered in snow, or Lucy and Sabine racing around happily. I am *so* glad to see Lucy doing so well!

I love seeing the snowy faces! Also, so thrilled to see Lucy playing :-)

Ashley January 30, 2010 at 1:26 pm

Ooh, this makes me want more snow. Too bad Britain handles it so horribly; I’d love a snow day with my new camera!

Jenn C. January 30, 2010 at 1:39 pm

My goodness, the sheep in the snow crack me up! The looks on their faces is a great combination of “eh, whatever…” and “Are you kidding me?”

So glad to see Lucy up and running around like a healthy puppy.

LOVE seeing Lucy running in the paddock with Sabine. Best picture of the day.

Anna January 30, 2010 at 3:40 pm

Yay Lucy! Just shows what loving care can do. :) In Fredericksburg we have at least 8 or 9 inches and its still coming down! The paper this morning said “3 to 5 inches expected….” What report were they looking at?? So I am spending the day weaving! I will say on another note, I love our mailman! Neither rain, nor snow nor sleet….he brought me the 8 oz of cormo/mohair I ordered from you last week. IT IS AMAZING! Cant wait to work with it. Thank your sheep for me!! :)

Susan January 30, 2010 at 5:20 pm

Thanks, Anna! You’re comment made me feel like a million buck!

What wonderful photos! I love how the falling snow shows up against the barn. Lucy, you’re a tough little beggar and we are all the better because of it.I have to say though that every time I see Ernie, I have to giggle. He is SUCH the personality.

So good to see Lucy up and out and having fun!

Lovely sheep shots! My dog came out to do chores with me during a snowstorm on Thursday, and when I came out of the henhouse to find her waiting for me I did a doubletake – in just a couple of minutes she had become totally encrusted with snow. She looked a lot like one of your snowy sheep :)

Stay warm and dry (mostly) – and have a great weekend at HOME.

Great pictures, almost makes me want snow. Ernie is such a hoot. I can’t tell you how happy Lucy in the snow with diamonds makes me. Beautiful.

Perry January 30, 2010 at 7:39 pm

What a great idea, putting Sabine in with Lucy!

woolies January 30, 2010 at 7:54 pm

I love the abominable snowman! If you go to my blog, you’ll see a photo of Tucson in winter….

The beauty, your perseverence, window into animal husbandry and fiber farming AND Lucy’s miraculous recovery do me good!

Dina (dinaknitsinmd) January 31, 2010 at 3:53 am

I am so happy for you I could bust. Happy that Lucy is making such an amazing recovery. Happy that you’re happy in your new home.

Aren’t snow days wonderful? Enjoy them – 90+ days with equal humidity are not far away!

Jen aka Jellenp January 31, 2010 at 6:01 am

I think Ernie looks like the Adorable Snowman.

I’m so happy to see that Lucy is doing so well! And I love the pictures of your snow-covered sheep. They look like, “Who cares about snow when we have such snuggly wool suits on?!”

Paulette January 31, 2010 at 3:56 pm

I’m so jealous of the snow. Up here in Wisconsin, the snow that is leftover is all icey and dirty. It has been cold, but, we haven’t seen real snow for weeks. Hopefully, next week is going to change that. I’ll just have to enjoy the white stuff by looking at the pictures here!

Great pictures (as usual). So glad to see Lucy doing better.
