Pictures from Texas

by Susan on January 23, 2010

I have taken, by actual count, eleventy jillion pictures this weekend of the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo. I’m only going to post a few pics here, so as not to bore most of y’all to death, but the gluttons among you can see a slide show of the Stock Show here and the Rodeo here.

(You can click these to enlarge, BTW.)

These are all from the Rodeo of Friday night. At least two of the women who went with us had never been to a rodeo before and we had all kind of fun. Handsome cowboys were seen, cold beer was drunk and funnel cake was eaten by some (but not me, cause I’ve been sticking to my diet in spite of incredible temptation.)

EDITED TO ADD: I understand that some people find the very idea of rodeos inhumane and cruel. It’s an issue I struggle with myself from time to time. I do think they are substantially different than circuses with animals acts, which I cannot abide for an instant, or bull fights. But that may just be because of where I grew up. That being said, there are certain events in rodeo that I can’t watch.

I’m writing this from the Charlotte airport between flights, so forgive me if my thoughts aren’t fully formed yet.

Aw, these photos make me so homesick! I went to the Fat Stock Show every year, from the time I was the tiniest tot until I moved away in my late 20s. Enjoy every minute, and go ahead and eat that funnel cake. How often do you get to Fort Worth, anyway?!

Rodeos are hard for me to watch. Cowboys on the other hand? They’re pretty darn easy on the eyes!
All your photos are great, but that first one? I love it!
Glad you had fun. I know you’ll be happy to get home to your farm and animals.

I love these pictures. I want to go to the Rodeo!

Watched both slideshows. What an awesome event. But, dang it. Now I’ve got cowboy fever and where am I going to find me a cowboy in Maryland?

So glad y’all have had a wonderful time. And Susie? I didn’t think you needed to lose weight to begin with but hey – it’s all good. You can always find another pair of sexy going out jeans!

Wow, I can’t believe that was only 24 hours ago. This was a very fun weekend. Thanks for the planning and the delicious meals Susie. Now my pants don’t fit for the opposite reason of yours!

And, I can vouch for us keeping Susie extremely busy. I can’t believe she’s been able to post as much as she has!

You all have safe and uneventful trips home tomorrow.

We’ve lived in Texas for 30 years and I can’t believe this is the first time I’ve been to the stock show and rodeo!!! Misspent youth, huh . . . but I’m sold and we’ll be going every year now. That was the fun, fun, funnest . . . and the aunties made me laugh and lurve them to bits!!! Wish it didn’t have to end. Wish you could all have been there!! xoxox

ETA: the corny dogs were divine!!!

Amazing photos, Susie. I can’t believe the body positions on some of those broncs–whew. Glad you had a good time, and especially glad you have a puppy to go home to. Safe travels . . . (BTW, was the cute little buckaroo with you guys?)

I feel that some parts of the rodeo are cruel to the animals forced to take part in this “show.”

Julie Roads January 24, 2010 at 6:42 pm

I’m sorry? Where is the album of hot cowboy pictures?

We go to the rodeo here in Tucson, where schools actually close for ‘rodeo days’. Lots of fun!! But having been thrown (flung) a few years ago off my horse (broken back), I ride much more carefully now and do not plan to do any rodeo riding anytime soon.
:)

Love your blog. Love your posts. Absolutely loathe rodeos. So awful for the animals involved. Nice pic of the little boy though.

Susan January 24, 2010 at 9:32 pm

I’m updating my post because I think you bring up some valid points.

Susan January 24, 2010 at 9:33 pm

I hear you Jodi. Updating my post to address this.

I know this is, errr, highly odd, but I swear, in the tenth photo down, where the guy is being tossed from the bull, the bull’s backside looks just like a squirrel’s head, no? Or maybe a gerbil?

suzy January 25, 2010 at 9:41 am

Julie, there weren’t so many hot cowboys!! We were all a bit disappointed :P

Laurie Ann January 25, 2010 at 10:35 am

AG Ambroult January 25, 2010 at 12:51 pm

Teresa January 25, 2010 at 3:47 pm

I love the pictures with your new camera . They are so clear and lifelike. The pictures are really fantastic.

Jen aka Jellenp January 25, 2010 at 7:59 pm

That gerbil bed thing is tooo weird!

Jen aka Jellenp January 26, 2010 at 10:30 am

Umm, obviously that is supposed to read “gerbil head” (NOT “gerbil bed”) ala VelvetMarmoset’s post above.
