I think that there are lots of funds being donated for the immediate needs, and the fact that Heifer will help with long-term needs makes me think that Heifer could really use the money. I made a donation to Doctors Without Borders to help for now, but a year from now there will still be hell in Haiti while the world focusing on a current crisis elsewhere.

I was pretty sure that Heifer would have something too - but I would think it might be several months before they will really be able to begin service again - and to me, the Red Cross/Doctors Without Borders needs are so immediate, urgent and overwhelming....

Heiffer takes care of getting people back on their feet. Emergency groups (I prefer MSF to Red Cross, but my idea still applies) help people *keep* their feet. Both are important, but Haiti needs the emergency stuff now.

Flying is a. drag. There is nothing fun about it; the "fun" only starts when you leave the airport and get to your destination.
Now, TRAIN travel, OTH, is all about the travel as well. Susan, I know you had a miserable experience...but for me, once I am on the train, the vacation has started. Sooner or (more likely) later we'll get there. The journey is part of the adventure. I LOVE train travel (well, except for the bathrooms: UGH!).

Safe travels to Texas!!:) Enjoy your time there and relax knowing that waiting for you on the other end is your loving, nuturing comfort zone.

I vote to divert the money. Every extra penny will make a difference.

Susan, I know what you mean by the "getting there", I also dread being away from home. Every once in a while a horrific situation like what happened in Haiti will remind us of what we have lost or what has changed in our lives and it makes us sad. Don't worry about it, once you get to Big Texas, you will have a ball, your mom will hug you and call you by your childhood endearment and all things will be okay. And you have some very capable hands at Jupiter Moon... have fun girl... you deserve it!
