(Not another) Handmade Holiday Gift Guide

by Susan on December 10, 2009

As promised, here are some of my picks for amazing handmade holiday gifts!

I find it much, much more difficult to buy handmade gifts for the men on my shopping list which is probably why I keep falling back to LemonBall’s handmade baseballs and footballs. I love this line in his shop, “Crafted with the conviction that a Handmade football is noteworthy and with the notion that fine leather is beautiful.” Isn’t that lovely? And so are the balls. (Can a football be lovely? I think it can.) $25-$95.il_430xN.108111445

For the musician in your life, how about a custom-engraved guitar pick? Love these. Someone cleverer than me could think of all kinds of cute things to have inscribed. $47.50.

Speaking of personalized, I adore all the note cards in this shop, especially these. (Maybe because they remind me of my BFF Julie? I miss you, J!) Note cards are great when you need a gift for someone you don’t know all that well, like a new sister-in-law or Secret Santa draw. $10.  il_430xN.99589517

I am crazy about this whale coffee mug $30.

The animal portraits Sharon Montrose makes are breath-taking. (I’m not posting a picture here since photographs are what she sells but please take a look.) $25 each or 4 for $75 during her sale through 12/11.

I love this beautiful print by Briana Taylor.il_430xN.106270470

I am always amazed when I look at Mary’sGrandaughter’s etsy shop. She is just incredibly talented. Right now I’m in love with this piece, called The Quilters. $90.

This simple print will go in just about anyone’s house and is a great reminder. $10.il_430xN.108532523

The urban chicken movement is really hot right now and there’s nothing quite as cool as gathering and cooking eggs from your very own hens. Why not gift your family with a mini-flock and this beautiful handmade coop? $499il_430xN.96370664

Finally, I can’t resist adding one non-handmade holiday item that I didn’t know about when I did my first guide. In my defense though, it is handmade related. This namaste bag is just the greatest bag ever. And I speak as one who knows bags. I got to see one in person in this gorgeous orange (called saddle) last weekend and it was love at first sight. So much more than a knitting bag. So much more. Around $75 as your local yarn store.saddle

My LYS has all the different types/sizes of the Namaste bags and I want one sooooo bad! So far, I just have the Buddy Case which I use every day!

The photographs are fantastic . . .I went to her web site and looked through her stuff. Fantastic photography. I particularly liked goose #4–so sweet.

As an artist with my own shop on Etsy, thank you so much for shopping there and bringing these splendid
items to your followers’ attention.
PS, I gave a Lemon Ball to my brother who plays softball in what his wife calls the Geezer League. He loved it!

I bought that exact Namaste bag at Stitches East and I L-O-V-E love it. I commute by train and foot everyday, and this bag is large enough to carry my life and my travel knitting. It is weatherproof, it has feet that keep it stable and upright when you set it down. Can’t say enough good things about it.

Whatever you do, do NOT buy the Namaste bag. A little bunny found one for you… ;)
