Probably something you would eat…

by Susan on November 12, 2009

Maybe it’s the weather. Maybe it’s my nesting instincts kicking in as I settle into my new home. Or maybe it’s the impending holidays. Whatever the reason, all I want to do is cook lately. Cook and eat.

I made the greatest oven fried chicken last year and can’t remember for the life of me whose recipe I used so I’m excited that The Kitchn has a round up of Oven Fried Chicken recipes.

The Washington Post had Jacques Pépin prepare a five-course dinner for six people for $4/per person. Sounds amazing. BTW- I cannot believe he is 74!

Australian fruit developers have come up with a new, longer-lasting apple. Fruit developer is a job apparently.

Mario Batali’s Chicken Saltimbocca (via Posie Gets Cozy, my latest blog crush) is calling me. So is this Cranberry-Glazed Butternut Squash.

Cider Bacon Chicken a healthy recipe? Probably needs more bacon…

Great article about shopping and cooking for one.

This locally-made Pumpkin Spice Honey Brittle from C-ville Candy Company will make great holiday gifts.

For the little people on your list you can’t go wrong with the Constructive Eating Set.

This wine rack is completely covetable, comes in four colors and is made from wool.

Saveur Magazine has outdone themselves with these mix and match collections of Thanksgiving recipes. My favorites are Stuffing, Potatoes and Soups. But the Pies and Desserts collection looks pretty good too.

The NY Times has some great Turkey day sides as well, like Fiery Sweet Potatoes, Carmelized Corn with Fresh Mint and Chanterelle and Pear Bread Stuffing.

What are you cooking, eating or salivating over? Hook us up in the comments!

This looks divine! I always have wanted to know how to do this – and here’s my chance.
And, oh, the Farmer’s Market! Can I come help set up the tent? Gosh, missing you folks!!!!!

I’m not sure why little people should be the only ones to get that Constructive Eating Set.

Oh my gosh that wine rack is fantastic – and would be so easy to make!! I’m going to sew myself one over the holidays I think.

I got the America’s Test Kitchen Cooking for Two book for my birthday. I’ve been cooking out of it ever since, I love it!

The other day I made lentil soup (turned out more of a stew) in the crock pot. I put in an onion, some garlic, some celery and some carrots, all chopped. I added a 26 oz. can of chopped tomatoes, a bunch of spinach sliced into ribbons, 2 cups of lentils, about 2-3 cups of water, and a couple of small sausages from the freezer sliced into coins. I put it on high & left it alone for about 51/2 hours–when we got home it smelled GREAT and made an excellent dinner with some bread, fruit & salad. I’m definitely doing that one again.
