I am rich with friends

by Susan on November 9, 2009

This weekend a group of shareholders from our ravelry group came from all over the country to spend a weekend on the farm.

Even though they were on vacation they insisted on working while the were here.

And of course there was a whole lot of knitting.

We invited some of our local friends to join us for lunch on the farm on Saturday. It was lovely.

I think everybody’s favorite part of the weekend was just hanging out with the flock.

It was truly a magical weekend. Seeing the farm and the animals through fresh eyes is so good for me! I feel incredibly honored that these amazing women took vacation days to spend with me. Y’all are amazing and I am humbled by your support. Thanks to everyone who came from near and far to make the last few days more perfect than I ever could have imagined they could be.

And for those of you who missed this weekend- no worries! We are to make the third Saturday of every month and open farm day when shareholders and friends can come and spend time with the flock. Bring your spinning wheel, your knitting and a picnic if you like. Children are welcome; dogs and other pets unfortunately are not.

If you’ll be coming from out of town, we can recommend the brand-new Best Western in Gordonsville. It’s about 20 minutes from the farm – the closest hotel by farm. There are many other amazing things to do in the Charlottesville area but I highly recommend a visit to Monticello or a trip to a local winery.

The only exception to the third Saturday thing will be this month, when open farm day will be 11/28.

I am thrilled to have met you in person and am still tickled pink that you live in Virginia. I can’t wait to get my share in the Spring – it will help me recall fond memories of the day :)

You always have a place to stay if you want to visit SW VA.

Best wishes and (((big hugs)))

All the photos you and the aunties took transported me to your farm and you know I was with you in my heart! I sure love my Third Saturday Spinning Days here at Jacob’s Reward and I know you’ll love your time to sit and enjoy your community. I like mine because it makes me clean up the studio regularly!

The leaves are falling (even here in NTX), the earth is quieting, and I feel some well-earned rest coming on for all us shepherd girls.

xoxo

Many thanks for the invitation to come and be a part of this weekend. I am grateful that you are also in Virginia and not only just love my 2 skeins of Toes Shoes, but am more appreciative of my Cormo worsted skeins! Bunny hugs to you, Erin, and Paige (my shawl pin savior)!!

My Darling Susie,

I love that Erin is holding Ramble with absolutely NO explanation whatsoever. Most of your readers are probably going, huh???

Also, I think you made a typo. You said that you were open farm day would be on the third Saturdays, but I’m guessing you meant third Thursdays. It’s almost too bad that this month is the exception — It would be wonderful to spend TG at the farm! :-P

And look, there’s Ramble!

Oh my! I’m SOO excited for you! The Lord always has a plan for us, we just don’t like to listen all the time. I LOVE that picture of the little girl following the goat, she is amazing :)

So cool! It looks like a fabulous weekend, and it’s great to know you’re “open” the third Sat of each month! (BTW, the post says third Thursday upon second mention, but I think you meant third Sat throughout, right?)

Gamma Tutu and Erin sounded so refreshed. Clearly a great time was had by all. And Ernie looked good, too.

I love your idea of an open farm day every third Saturday! Perhaps I will try to do the same here on my Idaho farm, at least in the summer. I am close to some great Idaho scenery and vacation places and know some nice B&Bs close by. But I really envied how it was warm enough to eat outside and work on the porch. In short-sleeved shirts, no less!!! Holy cow, (or ewe) how different it must be in Virginia where it is warm! We had our first killing frost a month ago and the snow line has been creeping down the mountain and is almost here. No garden parties here for a while….. But this is great weather to appreciate the warm sweaters, hats and mittens we can wear, thanks to our wooly friends!

I wish I could come and visit. Your farm looks so welcoming. I miss you and Erin!

We did work hard, but we played hard too!! There was so much to see and do and so much fiber to touch and love (on and off the sheepies and the goaties!!) So many stories to share and projects to look at and hugs to exchange – it was a weekend that changed lives…really…and again I am refreshed and exhausted at the same time :)
I miss it already.
