Holiday Knitting

by Susan on November 17, 2009

It’s that time of year again. You know, the time when you realize that you should have started your holiday knitting months ago? But I have good news- it’s not too late! I’ve just listed a whole passel of new bulky yarn colorways in the shop, perfect for knit-it-up-quick projects.

Here’s what I’ll be making in the next few weeks:

11th-hour-bulky-scarf

I am in LOVE with The Eleventh Hour Scarf from Whit’s Knits at Purlbee.com.  Here’s what the designer wrote about her inspiration for the pattern- “I wanted to come up with an idea that would answer the pressing need of the last minute gift without sacrificing quality, a gift that we can give without sheepishness or apologies. In fact, one that will be given with pride and received with gratitude, and one that, not insignificantly, you can start at the beginning of a movie and finish before the final credits roll!”

Great, right? You’ll need two skeins of our bulky fine wool yarn.I think it will be particularly lovely in Glacier.

The Instant Gratification Scarf is great pattern that doesn’t require a lot of yarn but knits up impressively. Check out these versions on Ravelry using varigated yarns.

With three skeins of bulky, you can step up to the Stolen Moments Wrap by indigirl. FULL DISCLOSURE: I knitting this one for myself. I have never knit anything for myself before but this wrap knocks me out and will be dreamy in our softest fine wool yarn.

For the men on my list I’m knitting Cowl’d and Frosty Morning by Kelly Herdrich in bulky and the Brangelina Hat by Laurie Perry. They both require only one skein of bulky.

In addition to the new bulky colorways, I’ve just listed a small number of skeins in our brand new Farmstead Twist yarns!

Twist yarns

My friend Mary used it for this Ribbed Keyhole Scarf and it is just darling! And she knit it start-to-finish in one afternoon. Farmstead Twist is a great choice for simple hats.

So, what are you knitting for the holidays? Feel free to link to patterns in the comments!

Luckily, I have a sister who is a terrific knitter and crocheter, so I am not tempted to knit any Christmas gifts. Except for the brand new baby, a couple of sweaters.
And, I knit my DH a pair of socks, my very first pair, recently, and he said, “No one ever knit socks for me before”, so of course I might make him another pair.

But, other than that, nope, no knitting for Christmas ;-)

I’m knitting a few Penelope toys from Danger Crafts on Etsy. I love all of the patterns but Penelope is my favorite…http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=34524096&ref=sr_gallery_7&&ga_search_query=danger+crafts&ga_search_type=handmade&ga_page=&order=date_desc&includes=tags&includes=title

I also made a few hats for my nieces using Jared Flood’s Porom. Very hip looking hats and extremely easy and quick to make. http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/porom

I still need a break after last year’s holiday knitting…and the fact that the beautiful sweater that I made my darling sister could now fit a small porcelain doll…but good luck. :)

I love the Stolen Moments Wrap. I made one for myself last year, and just love to snuggle myself up in it.
