Erin and I are starting the 30 Day Shred workout just as soon as we get the last Spring 09 Share in the mail. In the meantime, we’ve been doing our very own fiber farm version.
- Here’s what you will need to follow along at home:
- A big-ass pile of wood, delivered in the wrong place because you told the wood guy where to put it without thinking it through
- A wheelbarrow with a flat front tire.
- A forecast calling for rain (this is also referred to as “motivation”)
We had everything we required last week and Erin, Paige and I worked our backsides off.
Some of you may be asking “Who on earth is Paige?” Glad you asked! Paige Ryan moved down from Martha’s Vineyard with us to help out with the farm.
She has a sunny disposition. In fact, she is relentlessly cheerful and fun to be around.
She’s also incredibly hard working. I’ll post an interview with Paige later this week cause I’m sure that when you get to know her, you’ll love her as much as we do.
Which means Juniper Moon Farm is now run by three incredibly hard-working women, one of whom has a cheerful disposition.
Ta da! (Ignore my cousin Jack in this picture- he didn’t carry any firewood.) All told we moved and stacked a half cord of wood, with another cord coming tomorrow. Tonight, we are working on our laptops in front of a raging fire in the woodstove, basking in the warmth of all that effort.
P.S. I’ll be choosing the winner in our Shepherding Camp giveaway on Thursday, so be sure and check back here to see if you won!

Mmm, that looks like a big ol’ pile of WARM. Don’t give Jack a place by the fire. He didn’t earn it!
You go girls! The shred is pretty cool! I’ll be thinking of you while I’m doing it. If you stick with it, you will see results. Maybe not weight so much, but definitely in your clothes. I wish now that I had taken my measurements before I started…..just a thought. Good luck!
Wow!
Welcome Paige!!!!!
As for the 30 day Shred- that video is incredibly tough. (please be kind to your knees once you get past level 1 and start doing level 2- you can do some damage). As for moving all that wood- you all must have worked so hard!!! That looks heavy!
2 things –
1. Can I come live there, too? I’m old, but I work hard and laugh a lot.
2. Buy Paige a pair of gloves so she doesn’t get splinters.
It looks like you guys have a lot of fun along with all the hard work. Wish I’d had an opportunity to live that sort of life. Enjoy!
Would it be easier to pull that wheelbarrow, so the bad wheel is dragging behind you? I found that to be the case with strollers with wonky wheels.
No worries! We have reinflated the wheelbarrow wheel with the awesome air compressor Erin’s Mom bought us while she was visiting. I guess seeing her daughter struggle to push the wheelbarrow gave her the idea…
You guys!! You had so much fun today!!! And the wood moving is a work out all on it’s own…Jack looks like he might just be too hott for sitting by a fire!
I feel your pain, I still have half a cord of wood to move into my sun room but the weather has not been good to us up here in Mass. I love my wood stove, have not turned the heat on yet!!
I can’t wait for the drawing on Thursday! I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving!!
Great pics! Jack looks far too well rested, though.
Ok. So why haven’t you mentioned Paige before? How long has she been there? When will get to “meet” her?
oh no, i have been there with the flat tire on the wheelbarrel, it just does not work well at all! Thank goodness for the cigarette lighter compressor…came in handy for once! You bring back horrible memories of carrying wood. We only heated with wood growing up in northern new england, in fact my mom only got a furnace about 6 years ago!
Mmm, my arms start to ache thinking about moving that wood. I didn’t have to move nearly as much, nearly as far, but when the only wheelbarrow w/o a flat tire is full of paver bricks, and you think it’s easier to carry them, man you wear out fast!
You totally deserve to soak up that warmth! Enjoy it.
(We have 3 wheelbarrows, one w/2 wheels even, since the wood incident, all tires are now filled w/air)
I used to have a wheelbarrow just like that! My landlord noticed it and reinflated the tire for me. Next day, it was just the same. So I got a can of tire inflator (http://www.penray.com/products/products.asp?x=1&y=305&articlesource=305) and it was wonderful!!! Stayed inflated till I sold the wheelbarrow over a year later when we moved to Sicily. Prob’ly still inflated!
Sorry- you can’t post a picture of a good looking guy and then tell us to ignore him!
That’s a nice Halloween costume Paige is wearing in the first photo
You guys look great! I filled my hay barn yesterday – ok, some guys helped me – but still. Schlepping hay counts for a bit of shredding, I hope.
Tell Paige that if you guys love her, then we love her. And you’d like us to believe you two are dour tight butts, but unfortunately, we know better. It is good to have someone slap some sunshine into you, though, when you need it.
Hey, fix that tire, women. Go to your local bike shop & get something called “slime.” It’s green goo that you put in your tires, and when you run over a thorn or nail or whatever, it seals the leak but quick. It sounds like you’re staying warm, so all you need to do now is have a HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!
The great thing about firewood is that it warms you three times:
Once when you stack it
Once when you bring it into the house
And finally when you burn it.
Enjoy the fire! Nothing like a real fire on a cold winter’s night…
someone is going to get such a thanksgiving!
