Wow. You people take your Goat Giveaways very, very seriously!
By actual count, we had umpteen jillion votes for our 49 essays. And that was before the voting software went all wonky. I really appreciate all of you who took the time to vote for your favorite essays and to leave comments as well. You’ve really given me some insight into our contestants.
Since we aren’t entirely sure if the voting was equally broken for each contestant, Erin and I will be considering the top 10 essays as our finalists and choosing a winner amongst them.
It will not be easy. All 49 essays we received were thoughtful, persuasive, and moving. And y’all know that I hate to see anybody lose. I truly wish I had enough goats and run-in sheds to give each of you, but, alas, I have only one of each.
I will be announcing the winner here in the next couple of days. Be patient- this is difficult and very important to me. I promise to let you know who won no later than Saturday, October 3rd, but maybe as soon as tomorrow.

Good luck! I’m bummed–I was away and missed the voting, but the essays I’ve read so far are all good, so it would’ve been hard to choose anyway.
Just curious, as this is my first year as a share holder, when do you do the fall shearing? Won’t the goats get cold with their coats are gone?
Did you get your cake yesterday?
(You are going to need a lot of calories to make this decision.)
Oh, how will you ever decide? All of the entries seem so great. Good luck with this.
I’m glad I don’t have to decide. But I was impressed by those people who really did their homework and figured out feed sources, vet care, support system, etc. It makes them sound serious and concerned about caring for the critters.
Will you be posting a list of the top 10?
You’re dealing with the fates of live beings, so take all the time necessary to feel good about your decision. Are you doing any live interviews with the finalists?
I forgot to ask — are you requiring the finalists to promise not the kill the animals for meat and to follow the other basic principles you’ve established?
We take our goat giveaways seriously because we kinda see them as our goats, too. That’s the beauty of the CSA you have created and the lambcam and the updates you give us through the blogs and so much more. I am glad that I don’t have to make this decision. I’ll be praying that God gives you the wisdom of Solomon.
I just want to hug that goat. Fly across country, drive up to the farm, and hug that goat!
You take all the time you need to decide. These are your babies! Finding a new mommy and daddy won’t be easy!
On another note- though we can’t all have your goats in our yards, perhaps, if you had an extra set of hands, we could adopt goats/sheep (like I think I *adopted* a while a bazillion years ago) so that we get monthly pictures, updates— wait.. you do that already! We should pay your more for all the work you do!
Take your time Susie..these little guys deserve the best home
