Because I Can

by Susan on September 3, 2009

The other day I blogged about how this commercial always makes me tear up:

Which got me to wondering what ever happened to Peter, a.k.a. the Aran Sweater Guy. And I was tickled to see that many of you were curious too.*

gw_20536_clr_after_cu1Handsome isn’t he?

I was surprised by how much affection I felt for Greg, a.k.a. Peter, a.k.a. the Aran Sweater Guy. Sort of like running into some one my older sister went to college with or something. So, in his honor, we’re having a sale on our Aran Farmstead Yarn.

There’s still plenty of time to get your own Peter sweater finished before the snow sets in.  And when you wear it, think of Greg fondly.

* I am only almost sure that Greg is Peter. But I really, really hope I’m right.

You are so awesome.

Yes, that IS a nice sweater….the T-shirt’s not bad either! ;)

This is one of the best sales I’ve ever seen. And thank you for tracking Peter down. I enjoyed following your links yesterday to watch the commercial and then to his website.

Love the yarn! Is this yarn from your flock?

Jennifer King September 3, 2009 at 7:51 pm

I’ve always loved that Folgers ad, and yes it makes me tear up too. This time however it totally made me laugh, HA! I love Aran sweater guy!

How long will the sale be on?!! I don’t want to miss it!

Ann (yet another) September 3, 2009 at 8:53 pm

imdb says that you are right Greg=Peter.

Crista September 3, 2009 at 9:04 pm

Handsome is an understatement. Of course, I am refering to the yarn…

You are right. The YouTube page gives his name as the actor in the commercial.

Cindy Telisak September 3, 2009 at 10:16 pm

Greg is Peter. Sounds like The Twilight Zone Meets The Brady Bunch.

Did I mention he looks much better now???

And, Ooooooh – Aran Yarn!!! Nom nom nom!

Heather September 3, 2009 at 10:17 pm

Maybe we can contact Greg’s agent, confirm that he’s Aran Sweater Peter, and all pitch in at the next Shearing Day to make him an Aran hat or potholder or something. Just so he knows that we appreciate him and his influential body of work.

Cuz let’s face it, that’s one of the best Christmas commercials ever. (I also really like the one where the cold pine tree steals a bite of green bean casserole and turns into a decorated Christmas tree with a spoon ornament.)

God/dess, why did you do this to me? I watched the commercial, and I’m sitting here at my desk at work bawling my eyes out. The look on the mother’s face when she recognizes her son just lays me flat. And I’m not even a mother!!!

I think you should email him to let him know what he has inspired: gwrangler@gmail.com

I’m convinced that the Aran Sweater Guy is that actor above. I remember that commercial SO WELL, even though I was probably the same age as the little sister. It also made me tear up a little.

Benita September 4, 2009 at 7:28 am

I’d say looking at that smile, the shape of his ears and that chin, you are correct that this is the same guy – unless he has a doppleganger and two gorgeous guys like that would be too much to hope for!

Karen September 4, 2009 at 10:40 am

oh yeah! That has to be the guy. I agree, get in touch with his agency and have him model the sweaters we make with our yarn shares at the winter solstice. And thanks!! for putting the yarn on sale, I bought 4 skeins which are destined to be chunky mittens. Happy Labor Day Weekend everyone!

Susan,
You are just too much :) Peter certainly did turn out well.

Men always get better with age! Mmm what a looker! Darn you’ve done it to me….I’m a happily married woman to an older man! I loved how some…like JMF kept it on track… and didn’t get caught up in the moment like the rest of us! Great yarn!
