Rhinebeck is only two and a half short months away. Can you believe it? It seems like only yesterday we were having our shareholder meet-up and waiting in line for the Ravelry party.
I love Rhinebeck, and I confess to taking a lot of pride in the fact that it’s put on by the Dutchess County Sheep and Wool Growers Association, of which I am a lifetime member. The organization works hard each year to put on a world-class event and I am so blessed to have it all take place practically in my backyard.
I love checking out the latest sheep handling equipment and watching the breed shows. I love seeing all the indie dyers’ new colorways and watching people cheerfully stand in line to purchase them. I love the food and the sheep dog trials and spirit of camaraderie that exists even in the interminable lines for the ladies room.
But mostly I love the workshops.
Every year when the workshop schedule is released I spend hours poring over it, trying to decide which classes I absolutely don’t want to miss. The people who put together the workshops have made this a lot harder in recent years because the caliber of the instructors and classes on offer is very, very high.
This year I have already signed up for the Shepherd’s Rug class on Thursday and I’m trying very hard to nail down the rest of my schedule. Last year I took Sue Charbonneau’s Intro to Rug Hooking class (it was fantastic!) and I’m tempted by the Advanced class on Saturday. Sunday is where things get tricky though; I am desperate to take the Indigo workshop but Nancy Shroyer’s two dyeing classes that day look amazing too. And the spinning classes! Oh my!
If you’ve never taken a workshop at Rhinebeck you’re missing out on the best kept secret of the festival. And we can’t have that, can we? No. We can’t. And now you’ll have no excuse because the people who put together the workshops have given me seven workshop spaces to giveaway! More excited I could not be, people!
These are the classes we have to give away:
Kathryn Alexander – DooDads and Finishing in Knitting – Thursday October 15th – All Day CLAIMED!
Donna Kay – Beginning Handspindle – Friday October 16th – AM
Annie Modesitt – Backyard Leaves – Friday October 16th – PM CLAIMED!
Janel Laidman – Kitchen Sink Yarns – Saturday October 17th – AM
Lily Chin – Crochet Tips and Tricks – Saturday October 17th – PM CLAIMED!
Nan Crawford – Felted Soaps - Sunday October 18th – AM
Nancy Schroyer – Dyeing Self Striping Sock Yarn – Sunday October 18th PM
I am drooling over some of these workshops and I’m sure you are too. So here’s how it’s going to work:
Starting Sunday we will draw one winner per day from the comments of this post. Each winner, chosen at random, will get to chose the workshop they want from the list above, which will diminish as the winners are chosen. Makes sense? All winners MUST contact me within 24 hours of winning to chose his or her (but probably her) workshop or we will have to chose another winner. (It stinks, but otherwise the process will get all bogged down.) Classes may not be substituted or exchanged for other workshops.
A huge thank you to Dutchess County Sheep and Wool Growers Association for providing us with the classes for this giveaway. You can thank them by helping us spread the word. You can tweet this link by using the “Tweet This” button at the bottom of this post and bloggers who blog get a gold star and extra karma points.
To enter, leave a comment on this post. The giveaway will end on Sunday, August 9th, or when we have given away all the workshops. Good luck and see you at Rhinebeck!

This sounds amazing. I met you at squam and loved your spirit and energy. Would love to see you again. Thanks for the chance.
I would like to win, please pick me!
SO SORRY about your travel debaucle. I did that once but less so. LaGuardia instead of Kennedy.
I can’t wait for my first trip to Rhinebeck this year! Adding a workshop would be even better…
THIS IS SO GENEROUS OF YOU!!!!!!!!!

Wow! You’re awesome for organizing this workshop give away. I’ll be going to Rhinebeck for the first time this year & am really looking forward to it!
I would love to win something at Rhinebeck, but I’d really rather have that Greek Yogurt recipe unless the class could be gifted to a friend of mine. I will be on the Left Coast for Sept and Oct, welcoming my baby grandson!
What a great idea for a giveaway! And I missed Rhinebeck last year, so I’m planning on being there this year!
This would be my first trip To Rhinebeck and I would take whatever class I could get into – wow, so awesome.

I can’t believe the confluence of signals. I teach knitting to about 16 students in New Paltz and am taking them on a field trip to HV Sheep & Wool Shop later this month (as well as the sheep and wool show in Oct). Then I ran across your wonderful story and site. I’d love to meet you and see your operation. I’m planning to take several workshops at the show and would REALLY love to win one! Thank you for making this available.
Only a few days left, but what the heck, I’ll give it a try!
keeping my fingers crossed that I get selected
Hmmm, this festival is only a few hours away… I would love to go! Sounds really cool.

Wow, that is so nice of you to donate these different classes! This will be my second year at Rhinebeck, and I have never been to a festival better organized or nicer. It is now an annual trip for me and my cousin.
ohhhh how exciting, i hope i win!
2008 was my first trip to Rhinebeck and I can hardly wait for the 2009 festival. I didn’t take a class the first year. This is a very generous offer at a chance to win a space in a class. Thanks so much.
you are so generous to do this! count me in!
I can’t wait to go and celebrate my 10 year anniversary with the best husband ever!
I love the festival. Last year was my first year going, and it definitely will NOT be the last!

I’ve heard so many wonderful things about Rhinebeck, and I enjoyed the spring shearing. I would love to come back to NY.
HANDSPINDLE!!! at one of the most sacred events of the year!! I have been going to Rhinebeck for the last 8 years since moving to Poughkeepsie and have never been able to get in to take a class. The roving is delicious and mouthwatering and even if I don’t get to win, I’ll still be looking for all the wonderful supporters of HVFF!!
Thrilled after finding your website! Since today was the last day to enter your give away, thought I’d give it a shot. Thanks for the beautiful website. NJB
Rhinebeck would be a dream come true. I would love to go and take a workshop
I’ve never had the chance to take one of the workshops, but I would LOVE to. Thank you so much for having this contest!

Donna Kay’s handspindle is still available. I’d love to take that. I have plenty of spinning equipment and very little experience with it!
Well, I think all the days have been claimed already, but just in case, thought I’d throw my name in the barrel. I’ve heard so many great things about Rhinebeck and would love to go. Maybe if I had a class to go to I’d do the trip. So . . . I could use a trip, so hope I win!!
And, again, I know it’s prob. too late, but this entry is for Sewsusanne . . . she’s on vacation and I don’t think she has access to the blog. So if this is draw, it’s for Susanne, who I know would love this!!!
Oh my goodness–could I get any MORE excited about Rhinebeck!?!? Thank you for doing this!
