Apologies for the sporadic posting this week. Between moving the ewes up to Martha’s Vineyard and entertaining our very first Shepherding Camp guests of the season I have gotten out of my daily posting groove. I’ll be posting more frequently in the days ahead.
The MV flock has settled into the Island without a hitch. We made sure the drive up was a slow and gentle one and, as a result, having seen the slightest indication of stress amongst them. They are a very mellow group and a shepherd could get spoiled with so few, and easy-going, charges.
Shepherding Camp is turning out to be as much fun for us as it is for our guests. Kristin and Kay are funny, and fun and willing to help with anything. (The flock has needed little to no maintenance since they arrived; that will change in July when lambing begins.) They have also managed to maintain sunny dispositions in spite of the fact that the weather has decidedly not. It has been a gloomy, rainy, cold week so far, and I’m sad that they aren’t seeing the Island I love in all it’s glory.
I don’t want to let another moment go by without sharing some wonderful gifts made for me by shareholders. The first is a beautiful book, put together for me by my friend Kathy. Kathy works for Apple (swoon!) and used Apple’s iPhoto to create a treasure for me.
You need to know that my photos don’t begin to do justice to the beauty of this book. Also, it’s a book. A real bound and jacketed book. It’s so professional it looks like something you could buy in a store. Kathy used my photographs from the blog and flickr to put it together and I don’t have words for the kind of grateful I am. It has become on of my prized possessions. Thank you Kathy!
Speaking of books, my ravelry group has put together a cookbook (in ebook) format as a gift to the farm. A huge amount of effort went into the production of this books, with many farm friends contributing recipes and my dear friend Deb designing and pulling it all together. Again, the photo below doesn’t begin to do justice to the love and time that went into creating this book.
I don’t entirely understand the technology behind ebooks (yet!) but soon we will have Fiberlicious for sell in our shop. Buyers will receive an email with a PDF of the book and all the proceeds will benefit an awesome non-profit to be named later. (the Heifer Institute maybe?)
Thanks to everyone who participated in these projects! I am honored and humbled by your support.
P.S. It’s not too late to enter my yarnolicious twitter giveaway! Click here to see the yarn that could be yours and find out how to enter.

I’m so glad you liked the ebook, Susan! It’s really got some great recipes in it, and I can’t wait for you to put it up for sale on the site. (And, the pdf version looks even better than the printed version–just for the record.)
Susie,
One thing that we discussed when making the eBook was that it could be a gift that keeps on giving — in that it could continue to generate revenue for the farm. Of course if you wanted to donate the money that’s up to you, but know that we had expected that the farm would keep the money, so you shouldn’t feel bad if you decide to put it work. A continual hay donation, if you will!
I like the hay donation idea, what a wonderful gift. This is a collection of very talented and generous people.
Or maybe a barn fund?? I love the pics of Kristin and Kay…lucky people. And for me, the pic of Kay just says it all about how I feel about all of you that make this possible. See that includes human and non-humans
lambs to be born in july? hopefully during my shepherding camp week! lambs! i can’t wait!
Yes, what Lauria said … but we meant the money to be YOUR money, so I suppose you can do what you want with it! But pricing the ebook for, say, the cost of a bale of hay would make all of us feel good about helping feed your flock!
What a sweet gift! It looks like you’ve got a lot of things going there.
