Our all-too-brief visit to Squam Lake this weekend was a great success. Prior to receiving an invitation to participate as a vendor in the Ravelry Revelry I hadn’t heard of the Squam Art Workshops, but next year, you can be sure I will be there for the whole textile weekend.
Squam Lake and the grounds of the Workshops are so peaceful and lovely. There is definitely something about going away for a weekend that stokes the creative fires, and the SAW participants we met were all completely blissed out on all the amazing classes taken and new friends made.
(Erin isn’t going to like this picture, so don’t let’s mention it to her, okay?)
Several blog readers came by our table to say “hi” which always knocks me out. I also had the opportunity to meet several of my own blog crushes, including Amanda Soule of Soule Mama (who is so young and so beautiful and so wise) Stitchy McYarnpants (so very funny!) and Caro of Split Yarn (who’s box bags made me swoon).
Stitchy and Caro made me feel so welcome and comfortable while we were setting up. (You know how nervous I get at these kinds of things.)
I finally got to meet my friend Jean’s friend Kim of the Woolen Rabbit. Beautiful yarn!
Jess and Casey, the Ravelry Gods, were also in attendance. I only managed to get one not-so good pic of Jess and Casey. (Sorry y’all!)
I’ve never been happier to see anyone when Jess arrived with 10 pizzas and 2 kegs of beer for the party. (We hadn’t eaten since breakfast. Also I really like Jess and Casey.)
I was so excited to meet Heather of Sereknity. Heather is an indie dyer and you will be seeing more of her work very, very soon. Like tomorrow. Here. On the blog. When I give away a skein of yarn I bought at the party. And then again later. When she will be our featured dyer of the month.
I also met (but didn’t get a pic of ) the Tsock Tsarina! Actual knitting royalty, y’all. She was very down-to-earth and normal; she must have left her crown at home.
I bought two small prints from an artist at the party named Laurie Coyle. (The next three months are going to be even more stressful and chaotic around here than normal and I’m framing these and putting them over my desk.)
So as you can see, the thee hours I spent at Squam Lake were productive ones. My mind is working overtime on a way to bring that same sense of creativity and peace to the fiber farm. Stay tuned…

Sounds wonderful – many familiar faces. I see my wool on your table! Whee!
So excited about your feature dyers! Do you have a list of who will dye what when?
Looks like such a blast. And Squam Lake looks exactly as I remember it from when I was 12, which was a very very long time ago.

So great to meet/see you yesterday. I haven’t given my daughter her sweet tatoo yet; thank you. Looking forward to seeing you again soon.
Absolutely! Go get ‘em! And those prints are fabulous!
It sounds like an amazing adventure. What a wonderful finish to an action-packed weekend.
You know, Susie, you could just say “can you take a step to your left so you won’t be in this picture.” Or, how about “I’m taking a picture so try not to look like a slumpy grump for a second.”
Squam Lake was loads of fun and the perfect wrap up to our Fiber Farm road trip. Wouldn’t mind seeing more of New Hampshire in the daytime-it certainly is beautiful country.
Wow! What fun!
Actually, I thought that was more of a “glamour” shot of Erin – I didn’t recognize her without a goat, but she’s really gorgeous even alone.
It was so lovely meeting you at SAW. The sheep prints that I bought at your booth are wonderful…and meeting you got me even more excited for my yarn share!
glad you had fun! i haven’t gotten ahold of my mom yet to see if she was there, but being minutes from her home and her now retired…i’m sure she was! Hope you relaxed a bit and said hello to the lake!
I’d never near of this until very late in the game. You can be sure this will be high on my list next year. It looks heavenly!! Glad you were able to get there. Sounds like your trip was really productive and successful. Good work!! :O)
I love Amanda Soule’s blog, it’s so reassuring.
Stupid crown. I knew I’d forgotten something as usual. Oh well, better than forgetting one of the sock prototypes, or some of the signage, as I did at the last couple of shows.
It was fun meeting you – I’m only sorry there wasn’t more hanging-out time. Also – I think I managed to get some good pictures, including a couple of Jess and Casey. If I EVER get around to catching up on blogging this myself you’re very welcome to use any that strike your fancy.
It was such a treat to finally meet you, too, Susie!! Though, I’m sad that I didn’t do nearly enough petting of your yarn. Next year? At Squam? Sounds good.
Hope you’re getting some rest!!
