I am just head-over-heels crazy-in-love with our new Oatmeal Heather yarn. I’m smitten! I’m twitter-pated! I’m ready to move in with it and give it my ATM pin code! It’s just so soft and lovely, and it’s gorgeous natural but it also dyes up beautifully.

I love this yarn so very much that I want some of it to come and live with you. So I’m giving away 10 whole skeins- 1600 yards. All you have to do to win is tell me what you’ll make with it if you win. Links to patterns are a-ok, the more detail the better. [I'm looking for some ideas for my own ten skeins, see.]

All entries must be in by Sunday, May 31st at Midnight, Pacific Coast Time. [I hate to be predictable.] One entry per person please. Winner will be chosen at random on Monday, June 1st and will have 48 hours to contact us to claim his or her (but probably her) prize.

Good luck, y’all!

Lovely, perfect for the Central Park Hoodie for my daughter’s 25th birthday…she’ll love it!

Kathleen May 29, 2009 at 8:01 am

Oooh! That yarn is just begging to be knit up in the Owls sweater pattern that I have been pining over for the last few months! I’ve been looking for soft, natural colored yarn, so it would be soooo perfect!

Sherry Weller May 29, 2009 at 8:11 am

Depending on your gauge I think OWLS would be lovely! The color looks perfect for a little nest of cabled owls, don’t you think?

If its aganist the skin soft, a pullover like OWLS is a great choice!

Cheers! (hoot?)

Fireside Sweater!!! I have been wanting to knit this for quite some time, and I think this yarn would be perfect!!

Robin Steinbeck May 29, 2009 at 8:44 am

I would make Berger de France Poncho Jacket, It would be so cozy for those cold winter and fall days. I love the color!!!

Natalie Coe May 29, 2009 at 8:46 am

First sweater. Finally ready after baby blankets, shawls, scarves, bags, and washclothes galore. I would make the unisex knock-around pullover or berkshire pullover (from Weekend Knitting by Melanie Falick)

Gwendolen Gross May 29, 2009 at 8:52 am

Oh! I’d make Corsica (a Ravelry download, I believe)–cabley goodness in a pullover. I think the cables would look spectacular in oatmeal heather, or else I’d try my first-ever dying project..
Gorgeous yarn!

teresa May 29, 2009 at 9:01 am

I would so love that yarn. I’d make myself (not my children, not my husband, not my family and not my friends) a lovely top-down raglan – just a nice simple everyday warm sweatshirt type sweater. You know, too nice to be a bummy sweatshirt in looks, but comfy enough to be one and warm enough to wear when it’s cold. I live in the deep south, but have always been cold natured. That yarn is gorgeous!

Clare Russell May 29, 2009 at 9:03 am

I’d knit a cable bag for all my new knitting stash & projects – I’ve recently started knittng again after 20+ years so this would be a great project and challenge me a little. Everyone would see the fab yarn when I take my bag out.

Joanne May 29, 2009 at 9:35 am

Beautiful yarn!

Maura May 29, 2009 at 9:46 am

I can no longer put off replacing my deteriorated cabled turtleneck sweater purchased in 1990. It was my favorite wintertime garment, but I finally had to put it down this year. Yarn that is so beloved by its creator is the perfect thing to be made into My Favorite Sweater of all Time! I’m planning to use Barbara Walker’s top-down method to make it, with wide rids and cables throughout, either raglan or set-in sleeves, and a high turtleneck for scrunching or folding over.

Helen Joy May 29, 2009 at 10:20 am

I’m thinking mittens – thick, soft, warm, mittens. Pick me!

lisa ruelling May 29, 2009 at 11:47 am

i would make something so incredibly fabulous there isn’t even a pattern for it yet!

Mary Miller May 29, 2009 at 11:47 am

I would love to win the yarn, sooooooooo many things I could make lol I will keep my fingers crossed Hugs, Mary

Jessica May 29, 2009 at 11:59 am

I would make Vivian by Ysolda from the Twist collective Winter 08 collection. This yarn demands cables. With the leftovers, I would make some lacey legwarmers and a hat, maybe even my own Thorpe.

Kim Storey May 29, 2009 at 12:02 pm

wow, that is beautiful!!!!! I would probably knit myself a little sweater/vest/etc. because I just love that color!

thanks for offering this contest!

Have a great day!

Cynthia Shaffer May 29, 2009 at 12:03 pm

I would make a felted purse with your yarn– a big type of roomy purse. Perhaps decorate it with an acorn- shape button closure.

I would make a felted purse- roomy type and decorate it with an acorn-type button closure

Joanna May 29, 2009 at 12:08 pm

Very pretty! I think a simple, natural sweater. Let the yarn shine. I think A Cardigan for Arwen: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/a-cardigan-for-arwen

Joanna May 29, 2009 at 12:09 pm

Very pretty! I think something simple to show off the natural yarn. Perhaps “A Cardigan for Arwen”

sorry if this is duplicated! I think my first one didnt’ post

Joi Lynn Keller May 29, 2009 at 12:17 pm

Mmmmmmmm… I have twin 6 yr old boys and I’ve been quite particular in searching for some lovely tactile yarn to knit them some cabled & textured cardigans for “back to school” in the fall. One of my boys has autism, so soothing natural colors and lots of soft texture is perfect for him. It’s gorgeous!

Anna Strom May 29, 2009 at 12:19 pm

I would use this lovely yarn to knit a big warm “comfort-food-for-the-mind” shawl to keep me warm during meditations and cold Oregon winters!!

Barbara O. May 29, 2009 at 12:26 pm

Wow, what a great giveaway! I’d make winter dresses for my granddaughters with this beautiful wool.

Brandi May 29, 2009 at 12:33 pm

Although I’m already making this pattern, I have fallen in love! The Girasole is such a lovely shawl that I would love to make a huge blanket to snuggle up under.
It a pattern where the yarn and pattern would compliment one another. The super soft and simple yarn would should off the pattern wonderfully, while the pattern would emphasize the greatness of the yarn and how well it does work in the pattern.

Or maybe this would finally give me the push to make my very first sweater! What could be better, making your first sweater out of luscious yarn?

Carol May 29, 2009 at 1:42 pm

It’s so beautiful, I could cry ;-) I would love to make the “No-Sweat Hoodie” found in “Guide to Crochet” by the Chicks with Sticks. I’m a newbie and I think this would be great.

Jessica Muirhead May 29, 2009 at 1:51 pm

I would make Baby Cables and Big ones too: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/baby-cables-and-big-ones-too LOVE this pattern. I’m just starting with natural dyes too, so I would probably dye it a bluey-purple colour. It looks wonderful as it is, but I think it would produce a wonderful muted colour.

Tina May 29, 2009 at 2:25 pm

I think I’d make a Danbury Hooded Jacket.

andrea morris May 29, 2009 at 2:42 pm

I love wooly animals! (and their yarnskys)

andrea morris May 29, 2009 at 2:44 pm

sorry, forgot to say what I’ll make… and it is valences for the living room windows for the winter. 0x0x0

Cynthia Shaffer May 29, 2009 at 4:12 pm

I would make a big, roomy felted purse and decorate it with an acorn-type closure button

Stephanie May 29, 2009 at 4:22 pm

I’d definitely make the Urban Aran from Paton’s. The yarn is gorgeous!

Elizabeth Downs May 29, 2009 at 4:27 pm

It is just beautiful, I am dreaming of what I can make

Kathryn C. May 29, 2009 at 4:31 pm

The Cabled Riding Jacket is dreamy. This yarn would be perfect. Snuggly, warm and lovely cables. The ultimate sweater!

Tammi May 29, 2009 at 4:36 pm

I would definitely knit the evening gala aran!! http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/evening-gala-aran
All those gorgeous cables but no beads or feathers for me please!

Judy Miller May 29, 2009 at 5:56 pm

OOOH! I have made wallabees for all my grandchildren, and always wanted the perfect yarn to make one for me. I am 5’9″–a large granny–and your beautiful yarn looks soft and cuddly-great for Wisconsin winters!

Laura May 29, 2009 at 5:57 pm

I’ve just found out I’m pregnant and have vowed to myself to make a February Lady Sweater as a maternity cardigan. This yarn would make it ;)

Mary Myers May 29, 2009 at 6:16 pm

Beautiful yarn! This would be perfect for making a Central Park hoodie for myself.

Lynn Campbell May 29, 2009 at 6:31 pm

Beautiful!! I would love to use this to make a “Snuggy” for my elderly mom. She is always cold now and cannot to pull on a sweater w/o lots of pain. This would slip on perfectly! The pattern is from Bernat: http://www.bernat.com/pattern.php?PID=4045

Anne Marie May 29, 2009 at 6:45 pm

I was just watching your lambcam. Will we get to know the names of the woolly donors? I would like to knit something like the Gatsby dress in the current IK Knits. Like a long vest and can probably span 3 seasons wear.

Kathe May 29, 2009 at 6:48 pm

Congratulations ! I am excited for you!

Mel May 29, 2009 at 6:53 pm

I think it would be absolutely perfect for the Celtic Cardigan. I’ve been admiring it for ages.

Laura May 29, 2009 at 7:20 pm

It’s beautiful…I would totally use it to make something out of A Fine Fleece, like the Fylingdales cardigan.

Maria P. May 29, 2009 at 7:26 pm

yummy! probably something cabley all over, so I’m thinking cowl or scarf, because that yarn looks so soft and squishy! a cardigan would be pretty awesome too though.

Margie Brown May 29, 2009 at 7:30 pm

I do lots of modular knitting (see my ravelry page, sewwhat20, for examples), so it would go into many projects. I might dye some, but it looks gorgeous as-is, so most likely would be sections in a Triangle Tango sweater.

Devin May 29, 2009 at 8:11 pm

Very nice! If I won, it could inspire me to make my very first adult-sized sweater!

Liz May 29, 2009 at 8:20 pm

Beautiful yarn! I’m thinking either a braided pullover (as seen in Interweave Knits Fall 08) or some variation of a raglan pullover…sigh..something with cables of some kind really seems like a must!

Jen D. May 29, 2009 at 8:54 pm

Wow! That is gorgeous!!

That seems like the perfect yarn to make a sweater with. I’m partial to the owl sweater (http://needled.wordpress.com/2008/11/22/owls/) with that yarn. I think the brown heathered color would be great with this pattern.

Noreen Napolitano May 29, 2009 at 9:09 pm

I am Irish-American on both sides of my family, and my husband is Italian . My son lives in Japan with his Japanese wife and 1 year old baby. I’ll make a “american aran” sweater vest with Irish, Italian and Japanese panels, to represent all of our heritage.
Noirin on Ravelry

JezebellGray (on Ravelry) May 29, 2009 at 9:12 pm

Hmm.. I have a few things that I would love to do with that yarn. First off I would surround myself in it, because other than some kitchen cotton, and sock yarn, all I’ve ever knitted with is acrylic, and I’d love to have some “real” fibers to use to create something beautiful.
Secondly I’d probably make a set of matching sweaters for my 5 yr old daughter, and the baby that I just found out will be joining the family in January of next year. I figure if I made them something matching that my daughter could help pick out the pattern for, that maybe it will help ease some of the jealousy that’s bound to happen.

Leah May 29, 2009 at 9:17 pm

Oh, my! How beautiful au naturel! I would have to use it to make MYSELF a sweater from The Best of Knitter’s Arans & Celtics. But, please don’t make me say exactly which one…I just can’t decide. Think I’d have to wallow in the yarn for a little while and see what it begs me to make! Crossing my fingers right now!
