jamie

I have made no secret of my secret crush on Jamie Oliver and today I finally got my hands on a copy of his new magazine, aptly titled Jamie Magazine. I was ever so slightly concerned that the magazine would be a disappointment. There are so many bad celebrity chef mags on the stands these days, you know? (I won’t name names, cause sure as I do, one of you will be all “Mary McGullicutty is a better human being than you’ll ever be! Blah, blah, blah. ANGRY!” and I’ll feel terrible and you’ll feel terrible and where’s the sense in that?

I don’t know what I was worried about though. All of Jamie Oliver’s cookbook- at least the one’s I’ve bought and cooked from are really, really good. And I say that as a culinary school graduate. I find his food to be interesting without being too interesting, if you know what I mean. Plus, Jamie really cares about local food issues and has worked very hard to get local, nutritious food in British schools. So you see, my crush isn’t just about his being such a cutie pie.

Anyway, though I haven’t had a lot of time to read it, I think Jamie Magazine is a winner. There are over 100 recipes, and although some are simple, there are a lot of combinations I don’t know that I would have come up with on my own. Like Mushrooms & Poached Egg on Toast. And Roasted Halibut with Pistachios. And Parsnip & Pancetta Tagliatelle. And Broad Bean and Goat Cheese Crostini. Mmm…

There are lots of lovely photos and even the paper it’s printed on is even beautiful! I like it so much that I might subscribe…

I think he’s a cutie too! I’ve been making pizza dough for ages but the one from his latest cookbook beats all the others I’ve tried, It’s very easy to work with.

i was just in england to see my daughter and picked up jamie’s magazine at the airport. i was almost attacked by a flight attendant who wanted to read it too! i love jamie, he’s such a cutie and his food is to die for…love the magazine, but can’t afford the subscription price…ouch..i’ll just have to dream!

Anne, that last line in this post originally read “I might have to subscribe if I can get a bank loan.” But I was afraid no one would get it. It is mad expensive! So is Donna Hay Magazine, which I like but not nearly as much. Jamie’s food is much more real, if you know what I mean.

I have a secret crush on him too! He just loves what he’s doing and it truely shows. Have you seen his Jamie at Home show on food network? Love it! How did you get your copy? I thought it was only sold in England? Must have, must have…

I just got lucky, Rebecca! I went in to Barnes & Noble looking for the April Food & Wine, cause we’re supposed to be in it. B&N didn’t have it yet but they did have Jamie!

So I’m wondering, do you milk any of the goats? Would you try your hand at making goat cheese? Or is your goats’ milk strictly for the baby goats?
