I am so excited about the week’s giveaway that I can hardly sit still. Shareholder Jennifer King and her husband Jason have recently re-opened the Litchfield County, Connecticut inn that has been in their family for years and years. It’s called The Sachem Farmhouse Bed and Breakfast, and, oh my, but it is lovely. You can see some photos here and read all about the Inn’s history here.
Just look at these amazing old pictures of the inn.

The B&B is just as lovely today and it’s only an hour away from our New York farm. Jennifer and I are working on putting together a weekend dyeing workshop for a few lucky guests sometime soon, but in the meantime, she and Jason are letting me giveaway a two night stay at The Sachem Farmhouse Bed and Breakfast to one of our lucky readers! You might even be able to use it the weekend of May 9th when we have our Hudson Valley Shearing Celebration.
All you have to do to enter is leave a comment on this post telling me about your favorite weekend getaway. One comment per person, please. You have until Saturday, March 28th at Noon EST to enter. The winner will be announced here on Saturday and he/she must email us to claim his/her prize.
Good luck!
p.s. Coming soon- a giveaway that brings together knitting, our cormo yarn, baseball and the most fun group of women I know.

My favorite weekend getaway was to my friend’s wedding in Niagara Falls. We stayed at a delightful B&B, had a wonderful time at the beautiful wedding and then visited the Falls and all the little spots we explored when we went there on our honeymoon, 14 years before! It was like getting married again and a mini second honeymoon, romantic and fun all rolled into one weekend.
WOW ! what a great prize give away…
My current fav weekend get away is a drive up to Santa Barbara to my fav health food store with a walk @ the beach and maybe a lunch with friends @ my fav veg. cafe.
Without a big budget it’s a beautiful ride (as long as gas isn’t $4.00+/ gallon ) and just 30 min up the coast.
(i hope i win!)
thanks for the fun give aways
love
rona xo…
My favorite weekend getaway by far was a trip to Lake Placid, when it was all snowy and we holed ourselves up in a cabin to knit and cook (and drink wine). It was amazing!! and a wonderful break from law school.
Hi! My favorite weekend getaway was last spring’s fiber fest on MV!!!! It was our first “getaway”
together with our older sister, who came up from NY. Both Edwina and I were so excited to end work that day and drive down to the ferry….we stayed at a lovely B&B, the weather was fantastic, the fiber fest was so much fun, and we finally got to meet you, Carol, and the babies the next day – it truly was a magical weekend. A “girls’ weekend”…my favorite getaway weekend hands down – can’t wait to recreate it at Hudson Valley in May!!!
Oh gosh… I think my favorite getaway was the trip my husband and I took to Boston shortly before we were married. It was our pre-moon. LOL. We didn’t have money for a long trip so we went down for a Red Sox game and spent some time wandering around the city.
My favorite weekend getaway was also Martha’s Vineyard. One of the best parts was the bike ride. My sweet husband bought me a special bike seat for these old hips and did everything possible to make the bike ride comfortable for me who hadn’t ridden a bike in years.
my favorite weekend getaway was just this past fall – after years of going “with the girls” to Rhinebeck, i convinced my husband that we should make it an “us” weekend – after all, Rhinebeck always falls on or around our anniversary! he was hesitant at first but i bribed him with some hiking and climbing in the Catskills.
the hike ended up being nearly disastrous – we were on the wrong trail! we climbed the wrong mountain! – but nevertheless, we had gorgeous vistas and a great time. Rhinebeck, the husband’s dreaded event, dawned chilly and sunny. by 10am, he’d sampled some wine and cheese and was standing in line for the first fried artichoke of the day. after noon, he was begging to go back to the livestock barn to look at alpacas and goats. by the time we’d left, i’d bought another wheel and he was plotting how difficult it would be to raise alpacas.
it was a great weekend getaway because we were able to each do what we love the most. we weren’t even ten miles from the festival when my husband started talking about *next* year’s Rhinebeck… i think he’s more excited than me (almost)!
My favorite weekend get away is Duluth, MN. I love to hike at Tettegouche state park and eat blueberry malts at The Malt Shop.
Lake Superior is beautiful in the summer and winter. Plus there are lots of yummy places to eat.
what lovely old photos. and it’s in the same town as white flower farm!! would make a wonderful getaway.
my very favorite weekend getaway of all time was the one where we went to stay at my friend wayne’s industrial work loft across the river in brooklyn over thanksgiving, 2000. he has a stupendous view of NYC from his corner of of a (rather crummy) industrial neighborhood.
we got married there that weekend, surrounded by wayne’s paintings-progress. we filled the workspace with friends, candlelight, food, and good cheer, and enjoyed the view from the makeshift outdoor deck he built for the ceremony (yes, it was chilly, but worth it!).
afterward, we had the whole place to ourselves overnight for a “honeymoon”.
it was the perfect gift form a great friend.
What a beautiful location and a fantastic history! Let’s see, my favorite weekend getaway was about 5 years ago when DH and I stayed at a B&B in New Paltz, NY and when mountain biking at the Minnewaska State Park Preserve. Such a beautiful place and a nice relaxing weekend surrounded by nature landscapes. Quite a difference from the NYC hustle and bustle.
Duluth, MN is my favorite weekend getaway. The lake is beautiful all year round. There are lots of great things to do out doors and lots of great food. We never have enough time to go to all of our favorite places. I would love to visit Connecticut, I have never been there:)
I like to go to a condo in Galveston and watch the waves in the gulf.
A weekend getaway is a chance to go birdwatching. A favorite location is Anza Borego area.

Favorite weekend getaway – NIck’s Cove on Tomales Bay, Point Reyes, CA. Broad skies, an old fishing camp turned foodies paradise, kayaking, hiking, loot from Napa and Pt. Reyes Cheese, and, ahhhh, no cell phone coverage. Bliss
My favorite weekend getaway is with my sister, who happens to also be my best friend, to Topsail Island, North Carolina. We like to go there in the beginning of June, before the heat is too intense. Topsail is perfect for a quiet weekend spent lounging on the beach and visiting the farmers market. It is also close to Charlotte, so a quick drive will satisfy your yearnings for a yarn shop.
my favorite weekend getaways have been Claudia Krisniski’s knitting retreats. She owns COUNTRYWOOL in Hudson – she has been great for knitting, yarn, spinning, and many things crafty. I would love to see some collaboration between you and Claudia – she has awesome, themed knitting and spinning retreats in the catskills – P.S. this is not an advertisement lol, I just love her retreats so much
My favorite weekend getaway was probably Rhinebeck last fall. I camped at a state park near the Sheep & Wool Festival and got to take full advantage of my down sleeping bag (and my friends’ campfire), as it was around freezing at night.
Dillon Beach, California. My brother’s home on the coast. Christmas stockings standing at attention. Icicle wishes hanging from the tree. Good food and laughter within. Waves crashing below. The family gathered together for Christmas once more.
my family’s beach house in NY! it is so wonderful and I grew up at that house watching sunsets.
My favorite weekend getaway was a trip I took with my husband (before he was my husband) in my little purple punch buggy to a little bed and breakfast owned and operated by this retired couple in their house. The food was overwhelming and amazing, the couple was so nice, and the mountains full of so many little adventures, like caves, and hiking and shops….
Well…I’ve never really been on a “getaway” or vacation… but my favorite weekend away from home was a trip to Miami (3 hours away from home) for 3 days, to take a muscle-killing dance workshop, including classes by my favorite choreographer ever, Mia Michaels. It was hard work, I left for home exhausted, but it was a well worth it!
I’d LOVE to win this getaway!!!
My favorite weekend getaway of late was going into the Blue RIdge mountains from here in northern Virginia – very cooling in the summer and nice to see something other than concrete!
My favorite getaway is to head to historical sites that include examples of gardens like Monticello and Mount Vernon. I always get good ideas and it is nice to see the weeds in other people’s gardens….
My favorite weekend getaway is a getaway in spirit–having absolutely nothing on my agenda and being able to do anything I want the whole weekend long…
My favorite weekend getaway was to celebrate my sister’s 50th birthday. I said goodbye to my kids and my husband and flew in on Friday night with my knitting and a jigsaw puzzle. She had the wine. We worked on the puzzle and talked until well past midnight, spent the next day walking on the coast, making lunch together, going to her LYS, and knitting on the beach. We talked and knit and puzzled for hours. I flew home on Sunday morning, knitting with my new wool from her yarn shop and listening to Knit Picks podcast on my iPod. It was perfect.
I think my favorite weekend getaway is to be able to laze around the house with nothing to do!
My favorite weekend getaway was when I was in college and I brought a few friends home with me. On Sat. we went to the upscale shopping area, and the looks on the sales personnel faces when we walk into Saks and one of my friends had a rat’s tail. Ah, yes the 80s was great decade!l;)
Sitting here delaying grading papers. I could use a weekend getaway to dream of when the semester of teaching ends. Looks like a lovely place
My favorite weekend getaway is anyone the involves leaving the hustle and bustle of the city. Living in Minneapolis, the only sounds we hear are buses and airplanes. Getting out to the country to hear birds singing and the waves crashing onto the shore is the most relaxing sounds I can imagine.
.My favoritw getaway was with my boyfriend to Branson, Mo. We dropped the baby off on the way and relaxed all weekend!
My favorite weekend getaway would have to be a cabin in the Great Smokey Mountains and a slow drive through Cades Cove to see all of the old cabins, churches, deer and the occasional black bear. It takes me back to my childhood because it was where my family went for vacation every year.
Now that I live in the midwest again, one of the easiest and most enjoyable weekend getaways is to go to my dad’s house in rural Wisconsin. My husband and I get to bring the dogs along and they get a whole weekend of leash-free bliss. We are fed well and, depending upon the season, we either fiddle in the garden or sit by the woodburning fireplace. The cherry on the top is that midway between his place and Minneapolis is the Burnett County Dairy Cooperative which sells locally made cheeses, farm fresh eggs and tasty frozen yogurt.
Our favorite weekend getaway is to our friends Milo Vineyard. He has reraised two timber frame “barns” and made them into what I find is a dream retreat from the race. It is so peaceful there. It overlooks Keuka Lake in NY, and you are surrounded by vineyards. My daughter who is 6 loves it too. We visit with friends, enjoy great food and wine, we take long walks through the vineyard and in the meadow, we make stone towers, watch the kids perform on the hearth. We all feel warm and content inside when we are there. It feels like the how we are meant to live with the land and spending quiet time in nature with your sunshines.
My favorite would have to be the time Margaret and I drove back to NYC to hear two of the greatest pianists perform…..Mitsuko Uchida on Saturday and Murray Perahia on Sunday…..it was so incredibly inspiring and so exciting!!! Two of my favorites on one weekend, you can’t beat that! What a treat to hear them all on one weekend!
I once had a weekend roadtrip to Montreal with some friends that was so, so much fun. We stayed with a friend who had moved there a few years before, and he’d developed a real love for the city, that he was happy to share with us. We ate great food, met great people, and especially loved the European feel of Vieux Montreal.
(oops, think my comment’s too late! That’s okay – good luck to everyone!)
My favorite weekend getaway is the Fiber College on the Penosbscott Bay in Searsport, Maine. There are classes, demonstrations, and vendors. It takes place the 2nd weekend in September each year.
Lucky Lucky Winner! I wish I had found this before noon today. I love the picture of the inn from 1948. THis seems a whole world away from mine. Good luck with the nanny goat.
