Names for the (sort of) New Ewes

by Susan on January 31, 2009

At long last, I am please to announce that we have named the new ewes. You may remember that we decided to stick with our current naming convention and name all these ladies after islands. You all came up with great suggestions! We named the ewe lambs right away, but it was harder to get good photos of the grown up ewes faces. I put in links to each of the islands we chose just so you know we weren’t cheating.

catalinaThis one was easy! This ewe is from California so we’re calling her Catalina. She is much braver than the other ladies and a very big ewe. She twinned last year, so, if Lincoln got his job done, we can expect twins this year.

I named Lundy after an amazing island of the coast of England that I visited a few years ago.

This is Snow. She isn’t being bred, due to the fact that she had very serious udder problems last year. We bought her anyway because she shears heavy and, oh my! what a fleece.

This is Jekyll. Erin’s mom, Julie, named her. She’s another twinner.

Don’t worry if your name didn’t get picked- we have a lot of babies coming that will need names very soon. It’s not too late to chime in on our 2009 naming convention thread. I’ll winnow down the list and let ya’ll vote in a couple of weeks.

They are beautiful and I LOVE your late winter colors! I’ve also noticed that since I moved to the northeast all of my friends’ middle names are either Marie, Anne or Elizabeth. When in doubt I always guess Marie, and I’ve been right probably about 85% of the time.

The ewes are gorgeous, also beautiful juicy colors! Drink smashed ginger-root tea! There are my comment ;-)

I love Catalina! She is my new favorite and if I can make it out there, will be the first ewe I snuggle. (Oh, I do hope she likes snuggles!)

That picture of Liberty is awesome. I love how she’s looking right into the camera.

The new ewes are all gorgeous and I love all of their new names. Also, I’m in the market for a new camera and thought I’d ask what model you use. Your photos are always so beautiful.
